Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree at the time of appointment, with at least two years of full-time teaching experience at the tertiary level. Past teaching should include introductory to intermediate-level undergraduate courses in computational methods, e.g., programming, data science, natural language processing, spatial data processing and analysis etc. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating both solid technical/computational skills and engagement with the Arts and the Humanities. The appointee will be responsible for teaching and academic advising at the undergraduate level for Faculty’s interdisciplinary programme – the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Digital Technologies (BA(HDT)) programme. The programme places a strong emphasis on hands-on practice and student projects, and more information can be obtained at https://ug.arts.hku.hk/bahdt. The Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care aims to produce doctors to practise medicine of the highest standard and in the best interests of their patients and the community, and to inspire them to strive for and achieve academic excellence. It is the mission of the Department to promote quality primary care through education, patient-centred service and research in family medicine. Applicants should possess a medical degree registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, and the qualification of F.H.K.A.M. (Family Medicine) or PhD in general practice/family medicine. They should have proven capacity and potential in research; demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in clinical services and training; and have experience in undergraduate teaching. They should also be fluent in Chinese (both Cantonese and Putonghua) or/and English, although teaching, research and professional activities are conducted in English. The appointee is expected to participate in conducting research; planning and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Family Medicine; developing and providing clinical services in primary care; and, contributing to administrative duties in the Department and the Faculty. The appointee should demonstrate strong quantitative and computational skills, with proficiency in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis using Python, R, or similar platforms. Experience in grant proposal writing, scholarly manuscript preparation, and psychological or behavioural data analysis will be highly regarded. A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects are required. Knowledge or prior work related to clinical health psychology, behavioural health, community health, women’s health, elderly wellbeing, or the intersection of physical and mental health would be an advantage. The appointee will work with Prof. Wai Sze Chan on projects related to developing predictive models for health outcomes and digital behavioural interventions. Responsibilities include managing and analysing large datasets, assisting in grant and manuscript writing, and coordinating research activities.
