Applicants should possess a PhD in Mental Health, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or other related disciplines. The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to build upon our proud traditions and strengths by engaging in innovative, high-impact, and leading-edge research and development; creating a learning environment that maximizes student potential; incubating well-trained and enthusiastic mechanical engineers and research graduates; and serving the local and international community and industry. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, along with at least twelve years of teaching experience at the tertiary level (or equivalent professional experience), with demonstrated accomplishments in high-quality teaching and pedagogy, curriculum development, administrative leadership, knowledge exchange and industry engagement. The Department places emphasis on experiential and project-based learning, and a proven track record in implementing such approaches will have a definite advantage, particularly in areas of strong and growing interest to students and teaching staff, such as robotics and airspace engineering. As taught postgraduate programs constitute a significant portion of our educational initiatives, those with extensive experience in teaching Master’s-level courses in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering disciplines will be highly preferred. The appointee will be responsible for high-quality teaching in mechanical engineering subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This role involves the supervision of student projects and dissertations, active contribution to course and curriculum design, and ongoing review and enhancement of academic programmes, including accreditation-related activities. He/She is expected to actively engage students in learning through interactive teaching practices and incorporate these methodologies into their teaching approach. He/She should maintain active participation in knowledge exchange, connecting with the industry and the public. He/She will also be required to contribute to the departmental administration and University services. As one of HKU’s newest academic units, SBME provides an unparalleled platform for interdisciplinary translational research and innovation. This collaborative environment empowers researchers to break new ground at the convergence of biomedicine and engineering, driving transformative breakthroughs that will redefine healthcare both locally and globally. Applications are invited for appointments as Tenure-track Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor (several posts) in the School of Biomedical Engineering (Ref.: 535051) to commence as soon as possible. The appointment rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The appointment will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract subject to satisfactory performance. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms, subject to University’s approval. Candidates should demonstrate promise in teaching and mentoring, a clear research direction aligned with the School’s strategic priorities, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. A record of publishing in reputable journals, early success in securing research funding, and engagement in professional service will be viewed favorably. For the Associate Professor position, priority will be given to applicants who have established a nationally recognized research program, a proven track record in teaching and student mentorship, and a well-articulated vision for advancing research within SBME. Ideal candidates will have published in high-impact journals, successfully secured and managed externally research funding from federal and/or industrial sources, and contributed meaningfully to their professional community through service and engagement. For the Professor position, priority will be given to applicants with an internationally recognized research program, an outstanding record of teaching and mentoring, and a forward-looking vision for driving research excellence at SBME.
