Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh (UoE) is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Britain and Ireland’s seven ancient universities.

It is made up of three colleges: arts, humanities and social sciences; science and engineering and medicine and veterinary medicine. Within these three colleges, there are 20 academic schools.

In total, the university attracts around 35,000 students, the majority of which study within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, the largest of its colleges.

Its College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine is reputed to be a world-leader in its field.

UoE is an internationally-focussed university and welcomes students from all corners of the globe, with the majority coming from China and the United States.

Its students can also take advantage of the Go Abroad Fund, which provides grants for 250 or students to have a short-term international experience each year. Additionally, students are also encouraged to either study or work abroad as part of their course.

The university receives over £200 million in research income. It spends over £26 million on prizes, scholarships, studentships and bursaries. At around £317 million, it has the third largest endowment of any UK university after Oxford and Cambridge.

A total of 20 Nobel laureates are affiliated with the University of Edinburgh. These include winners of Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Peace, Literature and the Memorial Prize in Economic Science.

Alumni include Charles Darwin, David Hume, Alexander Graham Bell and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, among many others.

Situated in the heart of the historic capital of Scotland, the city of Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament, an ancient volcanic rock and an iconic castle.

Description The Smart Materials Lab (Panče Naumov Group) in the Division of Science and Mathematics, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on crystal structure determination using electron or X-ray crystallography. Candidates must have substantial experience in crystallography, specifically in the structure solution and refinement of small molecule crystals using either electron or X-ray diffraction techniques. While candidates with experience in structure analysis based on powder diffraction, neutron diffraction, or scattering data will also be considered, preference will be given to those with expertise in electron diffraction. Candidates should be capable of preparing samples, independently collecting data, and solving and refining crystal structures, including those that are theoretically and experimentally challenging, such as structures that exhibit twinning, disorder, or that change or decay over time. Proficiency in refining structures from electron diffraction data collected using a microscope or specialized equipment is preferred. The position is for two years, with the possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement. The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in other projects and activities within the Smart Materials Lab and assist in supervising undergraduate or PhD students. Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field, with a focus on crystallography. It offers seven degree programmes, including Accountancy, Aviation Management, Communication and Digital Media, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Integrated Studies in Business and Info-Comm, as well as two Food Business Management programmes offered in partnership with our overseas university partner, the Culinary Institute of America. This collection of business-related programmes provides a rich platform for the cross-fertilisation of ideas among faculty and students. The faculty comprises academically qualified staff with doctoral degrees, alongside seasoned industry practitioners who hold professional and postgraduate qualifications. This combination of academic rigour and practical experience supports a robust applied learning pedagogy. Through applied learning, students are exposed to real-life knowledge and practical examples, thereby enhancing the relevance and impact of their educational experience. The presence of both academics and industry practitioners also strengthens the Cluster’s industry relevance, as faculty members engage in applied research with direct applications and value to industry partners. Faculty Openings in the Accountancy Programme The Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accountancy was one of the first three programmes conferred by SIT. The programme is accredited by Singapore’s national accountancy body, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), as well as several leading global accountancy professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Uniquely, the programme is also recognised under the University Affiliation Programme by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute. This three-year direct honours degree was developed through extensive consultations with industry leaders and accreditation bodies. Learners may choose to specialise in one of five accountancy domains: Applied Finance, Audit, Corporate Accounting, Management Accounting, and Taxation. We currently have positions available at all levels from Assistant Professor to Full Professor in the area of Financial Accounting (Sustainability Reporting and Carbon Accounting). Successful candidates will join the BCD Cluster as part of a faculty team comprising accomplished experts who are passionate about higher education and actively engaged in driving industry transformation through applied research. Description The Center of Astrophysics and Space Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to work with the Mars Research Group to support scientific investigations of the Martian atmosphere and surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) “Hope” probe. The position contributes to ongoing research, data analysis, simulation efforts, and dissemination of scientific results from Hope observations. The funding for this position is provided by the UAE Space Agency. The successful applicant will; Analyze Emirates Mars Mission (Hope) data: Conduct detailed analysis of atmospheric and surface observations collected by the UAE’s Hope probe to support scientific goals of understanding Martian atmospheric and surface processes. Assist with analysis of additional Mars mission datasets: Examine and interpret complementary data from other Mars missions to strengthen current models and provide comparative insights that enhance research conclusions from Hope observations. Develop Machine Learning methods and run numerical simulations on NYUAD’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) system. Support preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations: Assist in drafting reports, papers, and conference materials to communicate research findings to the global scientific community. A candidate with a Master’s degree is preferred; however, the minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, or a related discipline. We are seeking an emerging scholar to join Te Puna Haumaru, our Centre for Security and Crime Science, based in Hamilton. This permanent Lecturer role offers the opportunity to develop a high-impact research programme focused on reducing crime and enhancing community safety in Aotearoa New Zealand. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) cybercrime, violent extremism, organised crime, environmental crime, and crime related to natural hazards. You will contribute to high-quality, research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students, and build collaborative partnerships with academic, community and industry stakeholders.
