The University of Bari Aldo Moro (UBAM) is a young public university located in Southern Italy’s historic capital Bari, on the Adriatic Sea. 

The university bears the name of Italian politician and UBAM alumni Aldo Romeo Luigi Moro, who was a leader of the Christian Democratic party in the country and a prime minister in Italy’s post-war period. 

Established in 1925, UBAM is committed to excellence in teaching and research. It is among the most distinguished higher education institutions in southern Italy, and has a particular focus on research conducted at the doctoral level. It currently hosts one of the largest student communities in Italy with more than 60,000 scholars on campus. 

With more than 12 departments focusing on multidisciplinary research in a wide range of subjects from agricultural science, foreign languages and literature, law to political science, communication studies and economics, the higher education institution has proved to be an attractive educational destination for not only Italian, but also international students. 

UBAM is part of numerous European and international networks such as the European University Association and the Community of Mediterranean Universities to encourage academic collaboration and foster research.

Description The Prof. Sunil Kumar’s Research Group in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a junior research scientist to develop AI-enabled healthcare applications. Key Responsibilities: Develop and fine-tune computer-vision models, instance segmentation, and retrieval-based estimation from images and text metadata. Build and evaluate monocular depth pipelines and implement multimodal retrieval with re-rankers for robust profile selection. Design and train advanced AI models for digital twin: 3D model learning, prediction models from imaging and molecular data, model-based simulation coupling, and uncertainty-aware outputs for lab/clinical validation. Work with 3D datasets, time-series sensors, and multi-omics or assay data to create predictive models and digital twin prototypes. Maintain reproducible code, experiments, and model/ dataset versioning; develop deployment artifacts (Docker, CI/CD scripts) and support cloud/HPC model training. Plan, run and analyze pilot studies (SME pilots and lab validation); participate in data collection, annotation and lab assay coordination. Write up results and contribute to publications, technical reports and presentations for academic and non-academic stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical/computer engineering, applied mathematics, computational biology, bioengineering, or a closely related discipline. Solid experience training and evaluating AI models. Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow). Experience with dataset curation, annotation workflows, FAISS/embedding retrieval, LLM-based parsing, RAG-style pipeline, and GPU/HPC training. Familiarity with 3D data processing or willingness to learn quickly. Publications, thesis work, or demonstrable projects in computer vision, multi-modal ML, digital twins or biomedical ML. Familiarity with uncertainty quantification and model explainability methods. Strong software engineering practices: Git, reproducible experiments, modular code, deploying models in cloud (AWS/GCP) and containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes). Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams. This project will make several contributions to existing literature. First, it aims to develop a comprehensive, unified framework that not only unifies disparate conceptualizations of job search success but also unveils previously unexplored dimensions critically relevant to the evolving landscape of career development in the modern era. Its content validity will be substantiated by both qualitative and quantitative studies; its generalizability will be demonstrated by data collected from job seekers across diverse cultural backgrounds and employment status. Third, it will examine the specific effects of these dimensions on predicting job seekers’ subsequent career outcomes, which will enhance the understanding of how the various aspects of job search success collectively and independently influence career sustainability. Description The Future-Generation of Resilient and Infrastructure Design Technology Hub (Future-GRID TecH) in the Division of Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit one motivated post-doctoral associate (or research scientist for experienced candidates with 5 years of post-PhD experience). The candidate will work under the supervision of Future-GRID TecH director Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to carry out cutting-edge research in the broad area of future structures and resilient infrastructure systems with interest in applications of new and emerging technologies. Particular areas of interest include: structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, and composites) computational mechanics and structural topology optimization vision-based structural health monitoring autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring Successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Other related field such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Material Science are also welcomed. Required qualifications include: strong communication and presentation skills; a track record in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal publications; and previous or relevant experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student research or junior graduate students. A formal training, education, or certification in a secondary area (beyond the main PhD focus) such as additive manufacturing, advanced/hybrid manufacturing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, etc. is a plus. Other preferred qualifications include: expertise in programming and coding (preferably using Python and C++) and GUI development; expertise in computational mechanics and finite element simulation and modeling; expertise in laboratory and multi-scale experimental testing at the material, component, and structural levels.
