About the University of Indonesia

Established in 1849, the University of Indonesia is the oldest state-run university in Indonesia with campuses in Depok, West Java and Jakarta. The main campus in Depok now houses the majority of the faculties, including mathematics and natural sciences, humanities, economics and many more. University of Indonesia has graduated many of the Nation’s top academics, technocrats, and intellectuals. Research and works produced by the academic society of University of Indonesia have also provided numerous solutions for Indonesia and the world. 

In 2007, the university underwent substantial reform and the university now boasts one of the largest libraries in Southeast Asia, accommodating over 20,000 visitors per day and holding approximately 1.5 million books. The library, which was designed with sustainability in mind, powers itself with solar energy. 

The university’s main campus in Depok was built during the mid-1980s when the university modernised. Just 25 per cent of the 320 hectares is used for academic, research and student activities, while 75 per cent is used to maintain the surrounding forest. 

The urban forest covers an area of 90 hectaresconsisting of many valuable tree species. There also six large lakes whose acronyms for each name to form the word KAMPUS, namely K(enanga), A(ghatis), M(ahoni), P(uspa), U(lin), S(alam).

In pandemic situation, University of Indonesia had to change from face-to-face teaching to online learning and breakthroughs with the application of the Kampus Merdeka (Independent campus) concept. This is an essential manifestation of student centered learning. Kampus Merdeka provides challenges and opportunities for the development of innovation, creativity, capacity, personality, and student needs. 

During 2022, University of Indonesia synergized very well with various industries through efforts to support breakthrough innovations, inventions, and ideas for the needs of industry and society. In 2022, University of Indonesia successfully obtained 267 patents. 

These achievements are further reinforced by the success of University of Indonesia to rank as one of the best universities in the world according to the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Ranking.

The Centre's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science assembles an international, ambitious and committed team and offers an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories and a creative working atmosphere. We are looking for a proactive and highly organized Lab Manager to take care of the daily operations of our research laboratory. This role is central to creating a structured, efficient, and supportive environment that enables high-quality research. A well-equipped and well-organized lab is a key driver of productivity and team motivation. You will act with a high degree of autonomy, lead operational processes, and ensure that the lab runs smoothly and reliably. The position is advertised for 40 hours per week and it is a permanent position; part-time work is possible by mutual agreement. Your future tasks: Coordinate daily lab operations and ensure timely completion of lab duties Onboard new team members, including training in lab procedures, biosafety, equipment, and animal protocols Manage inventory, order reagents, and maintain cost-efficient stock levels while minimizing waste Organize storage systems and oversee annual inventory processes Schedule maintenance and ensure proper functioning of lab equipment Maintain a clean, organized lab environment Oversee sample storage systems (e.g., -80°C, liquid nitrogen) and ensure accurate documentation Supervise quality control of reagents in collaboration with the data manager Coordinate animal facility activities, including colony management, shipments, and statistics Work closely with the PI on budgeting, large orders, and regulatory or logistics-related tasks This is part of your personality: Degree in a chemical-technical or biological field (e.g., apprenticeship, HTL) or a relevant higher education degree (FH/university) or equivalent qualification Proven experience in laboratory management or a similar role in a research environment Mandatory experience with animal research. Gnotobiotic experience desired. The Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki is seeking undergraduate students to work as research assistants in Helsinki and as teaching assistants in Helsinki and Vaasa for the academic year 2026–2027. The work will be compensated at an hourly rate of €15.70/hour. Working hours are 0–15 h/week; in Helsinki, 0-60 h/month. The responsibilities of research assistants include assisting researchers with various research-related tasks, such as information retrieval, data collection, proofreading, and technical formatting of footnotes and similar materials. The work requires good IT and communication technology skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of Finnish and Swedish is considered an advantage. The responsibilities of teaching assistants include various support tasks related to teaching, including the use of the Moodle learning environment and assisting staff with the system. Additionally, the work involves carrying out practical arrangements related to courses (e.g., grouping students and communicating course-related matters to students) as well as tasks related to recording teaching and other practical implementations of teaching. The tasks also include duties related to bilingualism and the use of both domestic languages, so we value fluency in Swedish. The work also requires good IT and communication technology skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
