In 1921, the University of Dhaka opened its doors to students with Sir P. J. Hartog as the first vice-chancellor of the university. At present, the university consists of 13 faculties, 71 departments, 10 institutes, 17 dormitories, three hostels and more than 38 research centres. As the pioneer and the largest seat of learning in the country, the University of Dhaka fosters the transformation processes of students and the country as a whole through its educational and research facilities. A new phase began in the history of the university with the emergence of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in 1971. This has been a phase of development, expansion and consolidation of earlier gains. The university has assumed a central role in the academic pursuits of the region. The university played a central role in the Language Movement of 1952 that ultimately culminated in the recognition of Bangla as the state language. Scores of students, teachers and employees of the University of Dhaka laid down their lives for the independence of the country. Just after the creation of Bangladesh, the government proclaimed the University of Dhaka Order 1973 whereby democratic norms and autonomy became integral features of the institution. The University of Dhaka is now the largest public university in Bangladesh. The University Library, spread across three different buildings, is the biggest in Bangladesh, comprising 617,000 volumes. There is also a medical centre with 24/7 service and a dental unit, eye unit, X-Ray department and two ambulances. Notable alumni include Muhammad Younous, Bangladesh’s only Nobel Prize winner, as well as many Bangladeshi presidents, prime ministers, artists, journalists and businessmen.

The project: RE-SECURE – Remaking Security: Technopolitics in the Global East explores how expertise developed under past political regimes can be renegotiated and adapted for new security purposes. Focusing on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as a region marked by profound political transformations from the Cold War to the present, the project rethinks the study of security by theorizing how ways of “doing security” are shaped by history, technology, and global connections. The project examines both the symbolic and material dimensions of remaking security, while combining desk research, archival work, and field research. By analysing how technoscientific practices interact with societal understandings of security risks and global politics, RE-SECURE aims to develop an original, historically grounded, and decentered perspective on security from the perspective of the “Global East.” Your future tasks: The postdoctoral researcher will lead a case study on cybersecurity in Estonia, examining how Cold War cybernetic expertise has been reworked in the context of post-socialist security transformation of Estonia, especially towards the digital statehood, cybersecurity, and cyber-defence politics. The case study research will involve document analysis, field research with scientists, experts, and policymakers, and archival work in Estonia. The postdoc will contribute to the theoretical and methodological research on the project and will collaborate closely with the Principal Invetsigator and PhD student. Research Technician In Vivo Cancer Immunotherapy

Project summary An exciting opportunity is available to join the laboratories of Dr Ali Roghanian and Dr Salah Mansour at the University of Southampton in collaboration with MiNK Therapeutics. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated scientist to work on our new funded programme developing next-generation, off-the-shelf immunotherapies for childhood cancers. This 21-month project will harness engineered cytotoxic invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells for precision targeting of paediatric cancer neoantigens. Building on strong preliminary data, it combines mechanistic and translational immunology with bespoke in vivo models to define and exploit therapeutic candidates. The Research Assistant will lead studies on cytotoxic T cell mechanisms, oversee preclinical validation, and advance TCR-engineered iNKT platforms optimised for immunotherapy. The role bridges basic and translational research and suits a creative scientist with interests in tumour immunology, T cell engineering, and immunotherapy. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning immunology, with access to advanced flow cytometry and in vivo platforms. Key responsibilities To work within the Mansour and Roghanian labs, and with collaborators at Southampton, LifeArc and MiNK Therapeutics. To design, conduct, and analyse in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments. To lead the optimisation and functional assessment of human T cells. To liaise and coordinate between project collaborators, including the industrial partner, and core facilities. To record analyses accurately and present results at group and collaborative meetings, and conferences. To contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and grant applications. Any other duties appropriate to the scope and grade of the post. Essential qualifications, experience and competencies Degree (BSc or equivalent) in biological or biomedical sciences or equivalent experience Strong practical experience with core immunological assays (e.g., FACS, ELISA, T cell assays). Proven competence in the design and execution of experiments using mouse models of cancer. Ability to manage projects to timelines, supervise junior staff, and work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including at conferences.
