The University of California, Santa Barbara, often abbreviated as UCSB, is a prestigious research institute in the United States, which specialises in liberal arts. As a Public Ivy university, UCSB is well regarded among US universities.

The roots of UCSB begin with the establishment of the Anna Blake School in 1891. The institution, which firstly taught economics, saw forty years of development and expansion before becoming part of the ten colleges united under the University of California public university system.

The university, which offers over 200 degrees at all levels, is formed of three separate colleges: the College of Letters and Science, which trains professionals in humanities, fine arts, mathematics and social sciences; the College of Engineering, which focuses its interdisciplinary research on biomolecular and computation science and engineering; and the College of Creative Studies, a place which stimulates the creation of original work in Music and Literature. UCSB is also home to two professional departments: Bren School of Environmental Science & Management and the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education.

Situated in close proximity to the city of Santa Barbara, UCSB’s premises cover over 4 km² of land between California’s Pacific coastline and the Santa Ynez Mountains. UCSB is one of the few American universities that has its own beach; a lagoon and specially designed walking and bicycle paths, which encourage and enable students to stay active, even during in busy exam periods. 

University campus has an active social life. The most famous event on campus is the Extravaganza free music festival, which gathers around 8,000 visitors every spring. The campus also hosts numerous student centres, which run: a local daily and weekly newspaper; radio station; and also campus events raising awareness among students about politics and diversity challenges. 

Famous alumni of UCSB include the actor Michael Douglas, and Nobel Laureate Carol Greider.

The university’s motto translates as "Let there be light".

Description The Mathematics Program in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on one or more of the following topics: Mathematical Physics, Spectral Theory, Quantum Chaos, Large Graphs and Quantum Walks. Related areas such as Quantum Information can also be considered. This position is offered through the research funds of Mostafa Sabri. The Mathematics Program at NYUAD is quickly expanding, the candidate will find many international experts and postdocs with whom to interact. Weekly seminars are in place across the various research areas represented at NYUAD. The successful applicant will also receive a mobility credit to participate in conferences. Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics, with a strong background in one of the advertised topics, as well as an excellent academic record. Candidates with PhDs in Physics or Computer Science may also be considered if they willing to collaborate with mathematicians on these topics. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a full publication list, a research statement, a transcript, and at least two letters of reference, all in PDF format. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed twice. In the first interview, the candidate will give a talk summarizing earlier research. The second interview will be to discuss a research project in collaboration with Mostafa Sabri around the aforementioned topics. Candidates are advised to reflect upon such collaborations and include them in the research statement before applying. The duration of the postdoc is for 2 years, with a probation period of 6 months. The Senior Director of Operations is a key university leadership role, responsible for the delivery of professional services, strategy and planning, partnership development, and the management of all budgetary activities within the School. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The researcher will be part of the team of the MCCS NATURE Project (https://www.nparks.gov.sg/Cuge/Programmes-Schemes/Research%20Programmes/MCCS%20Programme). The primary role involves developing and validating CFD models to study wave attenuation by mangroves, seagrass, and coral. Responsibilities include calibrating simulations with experimental data, analyzing shear coefficients and drag forces, and contributing to interdisciplinary research on coastal protection, with an emphasis on delivering accurate and impactful modeling insights. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: 1. Wave Stochastic Analysis and Hydrodynamics Conduct advanced stochastic analysis of wave environments to evaluate the performance of floating structures.  Analyze hydrodynamic behavior of floating breakwaters under varied sea conditions. 2. CFD and Finite Element Modeling Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize the design and performance of floating breakwaters. Develop finite element models for stability assessment, structural integrity, and dynamic response of floating systems. 3. Connector Design Design and analyze mechanical connectors for the integration of multi-purpose floating breakwater systems, ensuring structural stability and durability. 4. Design and Integration Develop innovative designs for floating breakwaters that integrate wave energy converters (WECs), tidal energy systems, and solar energy platforms. Optimize design configurations to maximize energy harnessing and wave attenuation. 5. Experimental Testing Plan and conduct physical model tests in wave flumes or basins to validate computational models. Analyze experimental data to improve and validate the floating breakwater design. 6. Research Documentation and Dissemination: Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to disseminate findings to academic and industry stakeholders. Contribute to project proposals and progress updates for funding agencies. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. 7. Project Management Support: Ensure timely execution of project milestones Coordinate with external collaborators and manage data-sharing protocols. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Job Requirements PhD/Master’s in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field. Proficiency in hydrodynamic modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS AQWA, OrcaFlex) and finite element analysis software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS). Experience with stability and mooring system design. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with data collection instruments and techniques. Excellent communication and report-writing abilities. Good understanding of industry standard will be an advantage Ability to work independently and in teams in both lab and field environments.
