The University of the Sinos Valley (UNISINOS) is a private Jesuit university founded in 1969. The main campus of UNISINOS is located in São Leopoldo which is about 18 miles from the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre. UNISINOS has 70 undergraduate courses, 19 academic master’s, six professional master’s and 14 doctorates, in which more than 400 research projects are developed across six schools: polytechnic, business, law, health, creative and humanity. The aim is to be a global research university by 2025. UNISINOS has been developing strategic partnerships with companies and universities in Brazil and across the world. These relations have strengthened research and scientific cooperation between students and professors. Through the technological institutes, UNISINOS also shows leadership in expanding knowledge to be applied to several industrial sectors. UNISINOS is ranked among the best private undergraduate universities and the second best private university in Brazil. UNISINOS is home to TECHNOSINOS, a technological park comprising 75 companies from 10 different countries including the South Korean HT Micron and the German SAP Labs Latin America. These companies offer a total of 6,000 different jobs. In 2010 and 2014, ANPROTEC (National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Ventures) voted TECHNOSINOS to be the best technological park in Brazil. It is known for its innovative initiatives including natural environment sustainability, social Christian humanism research and its 13 social justice projects involving the local community. The university is also home to Rio Grande do Sul’s Museum of Geological History which stores and displays samples of rocks, minerals and fossils to document the early history of the area.

The position is funded by an ARC Discovery Project on mitigating the effects of ionising radiation in superconducting quantum computers, in collaboration with Dr Xanthe Croot's Superconducting Quantum Circuits Laboratory and Prof Andrew Doherty's quantum theory group at the University of Sydney. In this role, the successful candidate will lead the experimental effort, including superconducting qubit measurements, development of a cryogenic cosmic-ray detector, dilution refrigerator operation, and nanofabrication of radiation-resilient qubit designs, with access to Rigetti Computing's quantum processor through the project's industry partner. The Centre for Health AI Research and Translation (CHART) was established in late 2025 under the LKS Faculty of Medicine to provide a unique platform that facilitates innovative health AI research and accelerates the translation of clinically validated AI and big data systems in a sustainable and trusted manner. We are now seeking a highly motivated researcher with strong technical expertise and a demonstrated interest in developing, evaluating, and translating AI-enabled digital health solutions. The appointee will contribute to interdisciplinary research projects involving academic, clinical, technical, and industry partners, and lead the planning, development, delivery, and operation of CHART’s technical platforms and digital solutions, ensuring they are robust, scalable, secure, and aligned with the Centre’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include: Conducting and supporting high-quality research in health AI, digital health, clinical informatics, research-support systems, or related areas. Leading the technical team and providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and performance management. Overseeing and contributing to the design, development, deployment, and evaluation of AI-enabled digital health platforms, applications, databases, and related infrastructure. Ensuring system security, reliability, performance, scalability, and compliance with relevant data governance and privacy requirements. Working closely with academic, clinical, technical, and industry collaborators to advance translational health AI research. Translating clinical, operational, and research needs into practical technical solutions, prototypes, and implementation plans. Presenting research findings, progress updates, technical proposals, and system recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. For appointment as RAP, candidates will additionally be expected to demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research agenda, lead research initiatives, secure external funding, and publish in high-quality venues.
