Role Summary This role will help to develop lung function-based respiratory biomarkers through AI, machine learning and image processing technologies to lung ventilation data acquired from a functional lung imaging modality called X-Ray Velocimetry (XV). The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) is pleased to announce the opening of one (1) full-time academic position (Teaching stream) in Zoological Medicine (Zoo, Wildlife, or Companion Zoological ('Companion Exotics') Species). The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor teaching (tenure track) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The anticipated start date July 1, 2026 or a mutually agreed upon date. Position requirements, qualifications, skills and achievements required for the appointment qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) with advanced training in zoological medicine (Zoo, Wildlife or Zoological Companion Animal ('Companion exotics') disciplines). Board certification (DACZM and/or DECZM) is preferred, however, board eligible ACZM, ECZM, or other residency-trained candidates in an applicable affiliated field (e.g. anesthesia, internal medicine, etc) with at least 3 years of zoological medicine experience may be considered. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching in both clinical and didactic settings is desired. The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor Teaching requires evidence or promise of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning, an awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching and learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning. Engagement in the research and scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy is required.
