Tulane University is located in New Orleans, Louisiana in the U.S. and has a student body totaling more than 13,500.

Tulane is a member of the Association of American Universities, a group comprising the top 62 universities in the U.S. and Canada, and is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as an institution with very high research activity.

The history of Tulane University dates back to 1834 when it was founded as the Medical College of Louisiana. In 1847, it merged with the University of Louisiana and, following a donation by philanthropist Paul Tulane, was renamed Tulane University in 1884 and became a private university.

Today, it offers degrees across 10 different schools, with programs in architecture, business, law, liberal arts, medicine, public health and tropical medicine, the sciences and engineering, and social work.

With nearly 5,000 employees across all of its campuses, including 1,200 faculty members, Tulane is the largest private sector employee in New Orleans.

The uptown campus on St. Charles Avenue has been the main home of Tulane since 1894. Across its 110 acres are 92 buildings that house most of the university’s schools and colleges. It is also where Yulman Stadium, with a capacity of up to 30,000, is located. The stadium is home to the university’s Green Wave football team.

The School of Medicine, School of Social Work and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine are downtown, while the Tulane National Primate Research Center is located in Covington, Louisiana. The School of Professional Advancement, based on the uptown campus, has a satellite campus in Jefferson Parish. The Freeman School of Business also runs programs at a satellite campus in Houston, Texas.

A number of libraries are scattered throughout the university. Its main library, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, houses the Latin American Library and the Maxwell Music Library, as well as special collections that include the Hogan Jazz Archive, the Southeastern Architectural Archive, and rare books and manuscripts.

Notable Tulane alumni include Silicon Graphics, Netscape, and WebMD founder James Clark, co-founder of Yahoo! David Filo, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Kennedy Toole.

This research‑focused role centres on mainstreaming natural capital concepts and practice across the Australian forest industry. The successful candidate will contribute to (Senior level) or lead (Principal level) a multi‑year research program that addresses barriers to industry adoption of natural capital assessment and accounting. This includes developing processes, tools and analytical frameworks that integrate biophysical, spatial, economic and financial data, aligned with emerging international standards. Working closely with industry, government and academic partners, the role aims to strengthen the industry’s ability to quantify, value and manage natural capital, supporting better decision‑making, market development, disclosure and nature‑related transition planning. The position sits at the intersection of science, economics and policy, with a strong emphasis on translating research into practical, industry‑ready outcomes. What you’ll do: Deliver a natural capital research program for the forest industry, translating international frameworks and standards into practical tools, methods and guidance. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), co-PIs, research team and industry partners to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct insights-driven evaluations of existing QA/QC testing practices and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce redundant testing while maintaining compliance. Curate, standardize and integrate historical and statistical data to form the foundation of a structured database for construction QA/QC and traceability. Design and implement a digital chain-of-custody framework that captures assurance records including mill certificates, fabrication data, inspection results and carbon footprint information. Develop, train and validate AI models to automate QA/QC processes, enabling real-time verification, anomaly detection and consistency checks across records. Develop a cloud-based verification platform for digital data collection and real-time analytics. Develop and apply non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and data-driven approaches to determine material properties of reclaimed steel. Investigate geometric imperfections, accumulated deformations, and their impact on structural performance, particularly for compression members. Develop data-driven reusability assessment platforms integrating NDT data, machine learning models, and RFID-enabled traceability systems. Prepare and draft technical reports, conference/journal papers, and presentation materials; present research findings to internal reviews, industry partners and stakeholders. Engage with industry stakeholders throughout development, testing and refinement to ensure alignment with real-world requirements. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Civil/Construction Engineering, Engineering Systems or equivalent. Strong foundation in data engineering, AI/ML development, and software systems (e.g., data pipelines, cloud services, dashboards, web-based application development). Experience in handling real-world datasets and model development/deployment workflows. Domain expertise in building construction/civil/structural engineering, including familiarity with building management systems, software integration, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of construction QA/QC and quality control workflows (e.g., inspection processes, test documentation, traceability and compliance records) is an advantage. Strong background in structural engineering, structural mechanics, or steel structures. Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques for structural materials is desirable. Experience with structural modelling and analysis tools (e.g., finite element modelling, structural simulation) is desirable. Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams. Strong analytical and conceptual abilities; able to work both in a team and independently. Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Key Competencies Proficient in Python or other equivalent programming languages. Strong foundation in data analytics and data-driven modelling. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
