We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic medical practitioner as Professor or Associate Professor in Adolescent Medicine. This position will lead the teaching and research program in Adolescent Health in the Sydney Medical School from the Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School and contribute to the wider field of Adolescent Health across the Faculty and University. The position requires a highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills who is passionate about improving adolescent health through research, education and clinical care. The Associate Professor/Professor reports to the Head of Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School of Sydney Medical School for their academic duties. The successful applicant will also provide clinical care in adolescent health through a separate NSW Health appointment with SCHN (CHW) reporting to the relevant head of clinical department. About you (Skills, capabilities and experience) The below specifies the essential and desirable criteria for appointment at Level E (Professor). Applications for appointment at Level D (Associate Professor) will be considered from outstanding candidates who do not completely fulfil all criteria to the level specified. The level of appointment (Professor or Associate Professor) will be determined during the selection process, based on experience and track record. The successful applicant must be a medical practitioner registered or eligible to be registered in Australia with APHRA, and with skills comparable to an Australian trained subspecialist practicing in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (AYAM) as recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. They must have an international reputation as an authority in Adolescent Health or related area of expertise with a supporting research profile including competitive research grants, publications and evidence of recognition within the broader research community. The Associate Professor/Professor in Adolescent Medicine will have a distinguished record of university scholarly teaching excellence as evidenced through successful student outcomes, demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes and innovation including experience in supervising and supporting Higher Degree by Research students. They will also have the ability to contribute to the development of a culture of excellence in medical education and research that is underpinned by evidence based practice. Term and remuneration The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position, subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period and confirmation period with agreed performance. Such questions and their implications for the foundations of physics are the driving force behind our research. You will be part of our team and develop new ideas, technologies and experiments to provide new insights on macroscopic quantum physics, on gravity at small scales and, in the long run, on the phenomenology of the gravity-quantum interface in table-top experiments. Our Team is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information group of the Faculty of Physics. We are member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ), one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe, and of the Austrian Cluster of Excellence (quantA), advancing basic research in quantum sciences, aiming to expand the frontiers of knowledge and thus being the engine for future innovations. You will also benefit from being fellow of the Vienna Doctoral School in Physics (VDSP), being part of a thriving community with more than 100 quantum scientists on premise, about 300 quantum researchers in Vienna. The main research activities of the Aspelmeyer group include quantum optical control of levitated solid state objects, the exploration of their quantum properties for fundamental questions and novel quantum technology platforms, as well as precision measurements of ultra-weak gravitational forces. On the quantum side, we explore the extreme regime of motional quantum states of solids and their interactions to understand how to maximize mass, delocalization, and coherence time in quantum experiments. On the gravity side, we explore the extreme regime of gravitational phenomena of miniature source masses to understand how to isolate gravity from all other interactions on a microscopic scale. Our main motivation is to explore the interface between quantum physics and gravity with new experimental platforms. Your future tasks: You will actively participate in research, teaching & administration. This means: You are involved in a specific and well-funded research project, here focused on exploring fundamentals and applications of quantum entanglement in levitated solid-state platforms. You will present your research plan to the faculty and complete a dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. This will be reviewed and adapted on an annual basis. You will work on your dissertation and towards its completion in time. We expect a large degree of independence paired with a high level of social awareness as the goal will only be achieved in a team.
