Founded in 1960, the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has become one of the best technological universities in Indonesia.
It currently has five faculties: mathematics and natural sciences; industrial technology; civil engineering and planning; marine technology; and information technology. It has 26 departments with six diploma programmes, 26 undergraduate programmes, 16 master’s programmes and 12 doctoral programmes.
ITS’ vision is to be a world-class university with international recognition in science, technology and art. Meanwhile, ITS’ mission is to contribute to the development of science, technology and art for the welfare of the community through educational activities, research, community service and management systems based on information and communication technology (ICT).
Since 2011, ITS has been an eco campus. ITS makes many contributions to community works. In 2005, the institution contributed to tsunami victims by creating houses for the victims. Moreover, ITS has collaborated with Tim Kajian Kelayakan Pemukiman (KKP) to do research on the feasibility of settlement for the victims of the Sidoarjo Mud Volcano, East Java, since 2008.
Furthermore, it has received a lot of awards both in national and international events. ITS, with its robot V-Yu, won the national Indonesia Art Robot Contest (KRSI) in 2012 in Yogyakarta. In national student science week (PIMNAS) 2012, it achieved a gold medal for student creativity in creating microstrip antenna for satellite and virtual wayang card game.
While in international events, the other ITS robot RI-NHO won the Indonesia Robotic Contest (KRI) 2012 in Bandung. In other area, ITS has Maritime Challenge (MC), which just succeed in the Atlantic Challenge 2012 in Ireland. Moreover, ITS also has Sapu Angin (SA) which participated and won in some categories in the Shell Eco Marahon (SEM) Sepang, Malaysia 2012.
