The Role and the Department Durham Chemistry is a thriving centre for teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and for world-leading research in the chemical sciences. The Department has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research which covers a wide scientific spectrum, from the development of bioactive probes through to the theory and computational study of molecular interactions. Research in the area of biological chemistry is well supported by state-of-the-art facilities located within the Department The Molecular Sciences for Medicine (MoSMed) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) programme is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) from 2019-2027. The programme is delivered by Durham University in partnership with Newcastle University. It harnesses Durham's expertise in physical sciences with Newcastle's incisive biomedical approach to provide a unique offering, both scientifically and for the student experience. The student training programme aims to ensure the next generation of UK researchers are equipped with the specialist skills required for working at the interface between molecular sciences and medicine. The CDT features over 20 biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and related sector partners from the UK and beyond. The Department of Chemistry is looking to recruit a 0.8 FTE MoSMed CDT Manager. The post holder will provide administrative support to the academic team as well as scientific support to the finishing cohort. This will include monitoring student progress, maintaining metrics on student performance; coordination of industrial placements and organisation of the 2027 conference in Durham. The role holder will provide student support including resolving queries and providing information on academic and welfare related issues, making referrals to other staff, teams and services where appropriate, escalating more specialist and complex queries or issues, as required. In addition, the successful candidate will work with the MoSMed CDT technician to support students' projects when feasible. Working closely with counterparts at Newcastle University the role holder will be responsible for collating and reporting data required by the programme sponsors, including financial/budgetary data ensuring that accurate and up to date financial records are maintained and expenditure meets compliance criteria. The University of Surrey is delighted to announce a renewal of the Surrey Poetry Fellowship, as part of the institution’s longstanding commitment to establishing Guildford as a centre for the creation, performance, publication and study of poetry. This year’s poet in residence will build upon the legacy of the university’s first teacher of poetry, Morag Morris, and the work of previous Surrey Poetry Fellows, Amy De’Ath, Sophie Robinson, Stephen Mooney, Jessica Pujol, Nicholas Johnson, Prudence Chamberlain, Jow Lindsay-Walton, James Davies, Verity Spott, Robert Kiely, Karenjit Sandhu, Ian Heames, Briony Hughs, Peter Jaeger and James Wilkes. The Poet in Residence will play a key role in organising the Surrey Poetry Festival, will organise five or six regular poetry workshops for students and possibly other members of the university and beyond, will introduce the guest speaker at the Morag Morris Poetry Lecture, and may participate in other projects within the Department. The postholder’s first objective, however, will be to write poetry which engages with the research culture in the department, particularly in the field of contemporary and innovative literature. The current expectation is that the post-holder will need to be present on campus to deliver the poetry workshops (five to six spread across both semesters) as well as to teach classes on the Understanding Poetry module on one or two mornings or afternoons per week over Semester Two (February to May 2026), as well as convening the module (this will involve responding to student queries about the module via email in a timely fashion and having a regular online office hour for student consultations). The teaching semester is 11 weeks long. Overall, this part-time post will amount to appx 65-70 hours for poet in Residence work, plus module teaching hours over the course of the academic year amounting to appx 49 hours. An honours postgraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification is required. A postgraduate qualification/teaching qualification would also be desirable. Teaching experience and event management experience is essential. Good organisational and IT skills are necessary as well as the ability to work independently.
