About Petersburg State Transport University

Petersburg State Transport University has a history that dates back to 1809. This is the year that the Institute of the Transport Engineers Corps was founded. In 1864 the institute began offering five year courses and in 1877 it was renamed Emperor Alexander I Institute of Transport Engineers. In 1993 it was finally granted university status and was given the title that remains today.

There are eight faculties at the university specialising in automation and intelligent technologies, industrial and civil engineering, transport construction, transport systems and power engineering, railway operations and logistics, economics and management, part-time studies, and pre-university training. There are both undergraduate and graduate courses available in these faculties for students to study.

The university is a member of The Association of Rectors of Transport Universities of Russia and China. This association was set up to facilitate the exchange of academic and scientific knowledge between Russian and Chinese universities. This exchange helps the universities to train transport specialists with an international perspective and to ensure they become experts in their field.

The university is located in St. Petersburg, a port city in northwestern Russia. St. Petersburg is the country’s second largest city after Moscow. Since it’s founding in 1703, the city has played an important role in Russian history. Between 1712 and 1918 the city was the capital of the Russian Empire, as well as being the location of the February and October 1917 Revolutions. Today its historic district is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
