Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) was founded in 1899. SPbPU is one of the 15 universities participating in the Project 5-100 programme to increase the international competitiveness of Russian universities. The university provides education in the following areas: engineering and technology, physical science, information technologies, economics, social science, humanities, life science, clinical and health. The university trains specialists in 49 bachelor’s degree programmes and 200 master’s degree programmes, 90 PhD programmes and 90 doctorate programmes. In 2010, SPbPU gained the status of “National Research University”. The university is proud of its longstanding traditions of international cooperation with many foreign educational institutions, research organisations and industrial companies in the field of education and science. Among the university partners there are more than 300 universities, 131 scientific and research institutions and 172 companies from more than 55 countries. In the university there are more than 20 international research centres that are carrying out joint research together with Motorola, Microsoft, AT&T, Siemens, LG Electronics, Apple and other companies.
