B1 lit. b (postdoc) Limited until: 30.06.2030 Reference no.: 5770 The new Core Facility NexusSoSci is being established at the Faculty of Social Sciences. NexusSoSci provides the infrastructural and technical foundations for a central service and competence center for social science research. It brings together qualitative and quantitative methodological expertise in data collection, data preparation, and data analysis. The three Senior scientists and the coordinator employed in the facility play a key role in developing the digital, material, and spatial infrastructures that supports research projects, training, and networking activities. The position will initially be based at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and then transferred to a subunit following a positive evaluation. We intend to fill the position of Senior Scientist for the Online-Panel Lab from 1st of July onwards, but latest by 01 September 2026. The position is initially limited to four years. Conversion to a permanent position is generally possible, contingent on a positive evaluation and secured funding for the Core Facility. Your personal sphere of influence: The Online Panel Lab within NexusSoSci serves as the central social science service and competence center for quantitative individual-level data collections, operating an online panel recruited through random samples drawn from the Central Population Register. The Senior Scientist plays a key role by (1) establishing and advancing long-term, scientifically robust data collection via an online panel; (2) providing scientific advice on the planning of research projects; and (3) leading training and networking activities. Responsibilities: Program and configure online surveys Design samples, including supplementary/boost samples Manage survey fieldwork, including invitations and reminders Coordinate incentive distribution and troubleshoot related issues Ensure data quality through monitoring, validation, and documentation Maintain the online panel by updating participant records and tracking panel attrition Manage participant communications and feedback Support data preparation and archiving with AUSSDA Support the linkage of survey data with registry data (governance, protocols, and documentation) Conduct preliminary feasibility assessments of proposed projects; advise researchers on implementation and foster academic exchange Develop and deliver workshops on survey methods and applied data analysis Contribute to the strategic development of the Online Panel Lab through needs assessments, national and international networking, and partnerships Teach social science methods in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement Profile: Completed PhD in a relevant discipline, preferably in the social sciences or a related field Demonstrated expertise in (digital) survey research and the statistical analysis of individual-level data Excellent programming skills in survey platforms (e.g., QuestionPro, Qualtrics) and statistical software (R, Stata) Knowledge of JavaScript programming Experience in project management and securing external funding Ability to communicate complex methodological and technical topics clearly to diverse audiences Strong collaboration and communication skills, with an interest in building scientific infrastructure Excellent teamwork and organizational abilities Independent, structured, and responsible work style What we offer: We offer you the opportunity to participate in an inspiring research environment that brings together notable experts in the field (networking) You can make a meaningful contribution in a socially relevant area (“pioneering work”) You will work in a team of dedicated colleagues at one of the world's most renowned universities, which is also family-friendly Your salary is 5.014,30 euros (full-time basis; gross) and increases if we can credit professional experience. Description The research group of Prof. Ingyin Zaw at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to add a Research Scientist in Extragalactic Astronomy to study the impact Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) have on their host galaxies. Applicants with a background analyzing and interpreting astrophysical data, in particular the statistical analysis of data obtained by large surveys, are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits. Research in the Prof. Zaw’s group focuses AGN activity and feedback which are critical components of current theories of galaxy evolution. Project include collaborations with researchers in Physics program and Center for Astrophysics and Space Science (CASS) at NYU Abu Dhabi, as well as researchers at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics (CCPP) at NYU New York. Researchers are NYUAD have access to numerous high performance computing facilities, as well as access to sponsored time on several observing facilitates. Responsibilities of the position include using advanced statistical and Machine Learning techniques to study AGN properties, galaxy properties, and the relationships between them in large samples of galaxies, as well as participating in other research activities of the group. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree, or equivalent, in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics or related field, and at least 6 years of research experience (Excluding the years taken to complete their PhD). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience analyzing and interpreting astrophysical data – especially that obtained from larger surveys, and strong computational skills. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and interest in using advanced statistical / machine learning techniques to study the correlation between variables. The role Applications are invited for a Research Fellow (RF) position for 8 months within the Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP), University of Surrey, UK, to work on perceptual evaluations and data curation for spatial music. The post is funded by a leading industry partner. The focus will be to organise and perform listening tests to evaluate the perceptual quality of spatialised music audio, record the listening scores from each subject, perform statistical analysis of the listening test data, and organise the data files. The post-holder is expected to collaborate with other team members, such as the Research Fellow who focuses on building machine learning models for perceptual quality prediction. About you The post-holder is expected to have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in electronic engineering, computer science, psychology of hearing, or a related field. Preference will be given to those who have experience on listening test, data curation, audio perception, psychoacoustics, but candidates who have experience in spatial audio and music audio are welcome to apply. The post-holder is expected to have skills in using software tools to manage and curate datasets with listening test scores. The post-holder will be based in CVSSP, and work under the direction of the Principal Investigator Prof Wenwu Wang, and in collaboration with the industrial partner. CVSSP is an International Centre of Excellence for research in Audio-Visual Machine Perception and AI, with over 180 researchers. The Centre has state-of-the-art audio and video capture and analysis facilities supporting research in real-time video and audio processing and visualisation. CVSSP has a compute facility with 300 GPUs and >2PB of high-speed secure storage. The post-holder will also have access to the compute resources from Surrey Institute of People Centred AI, including 200+ state-of-the-art GPUs.
