This post is part of an AHRC project, Convergent screen technologies and performance in realtime (CoSTAR). The post will operate within the CoSTAR National Lab led by Royal Holloway University of London with Pinewood Studios, BT, University of Surrey, Abertay University, Disguise, National Film and Television School and Surrey County Council. The CoSTAR National Lab AI Research Software Engineer will take a significant role in planning, coordinating and implementing research programmes and, where appropriate, commercial and consultancy activities. They will take lead responsibility for a small research project or identified parts of a large project. Making decisions about research programmes and methodologies, often in collaboration with colleagues, and to resolve the problems of meeting research objectives and deadlines. Developing new concepts and ideas to extend intellectual understanding. Assessing, interpreting, and evaluating the outcomes of research and developing ideas for the application of research outcomes. Pursuing and advocating responsible and open research and innovation to ensure ethical, fair, and inclusive advances in science, technology and use of data. N.B. The above list is not exhaustive. About you The ideal candidate must have a Master's degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or a related subject. A strong background in software development and experience in one or more of the following areas is essential: Experience in software development in topics such as computer vision, audio signal processing, machine learning, deep learning, and/or sensor systems. Experience in collaboration and technology transfer to partners outside of academia, ideally within the creative industries. Excellent writing and communication for varying levels of technical/non-technical audience. Skills and experience of development using languages such as Python and C++ with relevant computer vision, signal processing, machine learning and/or deep learning tools (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, OpenCV etc.). Desirable skills and experience include: Skills and experience of frontend development using languages such as HTML5, Javascript, React. Description NYUAD Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on the development of membrane desalination to treat water from the Arabian Gulf feed sources and on the design and scale-up of low energy membranes for water purification, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functional membrane materials, including nanostructured polymer membranes tailored to microfiltration, ultrafiltration, membrane distillation, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The candidate will employ advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, TEM, DSC, TGA, BET, etc.) to establish fabrication-structure-property-performance relationships in novel materials for sustainable desalination and water treatment. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage projects and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, build deep technical knowledge and develop transferable solutions. He/she will participate in developing novel concepts and writing proposals. He/she will work towards solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents and presenting results at conferences.
