The CORNERSTONE Photonics Innovation Centre (C-PIC) team at the University of Southampton has a shared vision: to take silicon photonics technologies from research labs to everyday life by enabling ubiquitous silicon photonics solutions. CORNERSTONE provides a silicon photonics fabrication service to researchers and innovators from across the globe, focused around our unique cleanrooms capabilities in Southampton, UK (www.cornerstone.sotonfab.co.uk). We are seeking an experienced PDK Engineer with a technical background in graphene and/or silicon photonics for our role in the EU-funded project, PIXEurope. You will be passionate about supporting cutting-edge research and development in a growing team of enthusiastic colleagues. You will be self-motivated, a skilled communicator, flexible, able to work both independently and as part of a large consortium, and to manage your time efficiently. You have good interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including both UK and EU PIXEurope consortium partners. You will be responsible for developing the Process Design Kit (PDK) and characterisation of the graphene on Silicon Photonics chips for the PIXEurope project. You will attend European project meetings and represent the project at relevant conferences and events. You will be part of a a PDK team to develop the CORNERSONE platform. You will work with the project partners and internal process fabrication team to develop the technology. A proven track-record in PDK design with demonstrated experience in establishing a technology service is desirable.  This post is initially funded until 31st May 2030. Research Fellow in Marine Ecology

We are seeking a highly motivated Marine Ecologist to join our collaborative research group at the University of Southampton. This position is funded by the NERC C-FLOOR highlight topic and offers a unique opportunity to investigate how physical disturbance, specifically bottom trawling, influences the capacity of marine sediments to act as net sources or sinks of carbon, nutrients and greenhouse gases. Under the direction of Prof Martin Solan and Prof Jasmin Godbold you will play a central role in this NERC funded project. Specifically, you will undertake a series of manipulative laboratory experiments and field surveys (using sediment profile imaging technology) to link changes in carbon, nutrient stoichiometry and greenhouse gas dynamics with the effects of trawl gears, fishing intensity, sediment types, species composition, and seasonal timing. This position is highly collaborative requiring active engagement with partner institutions across the UK to ensure integrated project outcomes. The role requires that you take a leading role in dissemination of novel findings through high-impact, peer reviewed academic publications while continuously developing advanced technical skills and research competencies within a world-class marine science environment. The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, or a closely related discipline by the start date. The candidate should have a strong background in benthic invertebrate community ecology and experience with laboratory experiments, image analysis and the interpretation of complex ecological data. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to have a proven track record in written and oral communication skills with a commitment to collaborative, team-based science. Experience working at sea is desirable. The School of Engineering and Built Environment seeks to appoint a post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on a research project for 24 months funded by LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation. This is part of a project in capacity building to improve higher education skills in Ethiopia and to establish regional universities as local powerhouses in research and teaching related to logistics and supply chain management. Your main duty will be carrying out joint research projects with Ethiopian academics, guest lecturing, academic-practice engagement projects, reciprocal research stays, curriculum review, and co-supervision for Ethiopian students. The duties will also seek to establish new ties between LJMU and universities in Ethiopia and potentially the wider region. You should hold a PhD degree and have an in-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain management with direct application in Ethiopia where LEARN Logistics by Kuehne Foundation is seeking to strengthen the education experience for logistics and supply chain management students and faculty. In addition, you should have relevant experience in the local industrial and academic processes and customs. It would be desirable for candidates to have a network of contacts from the private and public sector to support data collection and information gathering for research activities. Previous participation in curricula design and review processes is beneficial. Experience in presenting results at meetings is essential. You should be able to work effectively as a team member with academics, industrial partners, and research students. Preferably, you should be fluent in Amharic and another local Ethiopian language.
