About Nanzan University

Basic information and contact details for Nanzan University

Nanzan University was officially established in 1949, however its history dates back to 1932 when Nanzan Junior High School was founded. In 1946 Nanzan Foreign Language School was opened and in 1949 it was renamed Nanzan University. The university is located in Yagoto, in the eastern part of Nagoya. There are eight faculties at the university specialising in the fields of business administration, economics, foreign studies, global liberal studies, humanities, law, policy studies, and science and engineering. Each faculty is divided into departments, which offer both undergraduate and graduate courses. In 1974 the university opened its Centre for Japanese Studies, which provides intensive Japanese languages courses. Every year more than 150 international students enrol in these language programs for a semester or a year. International students also come to the university to study as part of an academic exchange with one of the university’s 100 partner institutions. The university’s Catholic origins are derived from the Divine Word Missionaries – an international religious congregation of priests and brothers. Josef Reiners, who founded Nanzan Junior High School, was a member of the Divine Word Missionary. The university’s religious motto "For Human Dignity" refers to the university’s role in making each student aware of his or her God-given dignity. Nagoya is the largest city in the Chūbu region of Japan. Unfortunately the 1945 air raids destroyed most of the city, including its historic buildings. Nagoya has now become the manufacturing centre of Chūbu and is home to the Toyota Motor Corporation headquarters. The city is situated between Tokyo and Kyoto, which is ideal for students who wish to explore more of what Japan has to offer.

The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver on a research project to develop an End-to-end misinformation and disinformation protection, awareness and mitigation pipeline. We will be recruiting a research engineers or fellows, as part of a wider project, to conduct research on: LLM/VLM, media comparison, AI-assisted explainability. The need is for a real-time system, so efficient coding is important. Key Responsibilities: Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) Ian McLoughlin, Co-PI Tong Rong and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.  Undertake research within your domain, including keeping track of state-of-the-art work. Develop the code, evaluate and test. Write academic publications. Deliver solution-ready demonstration code. Interact well within the team and the customers. Be self-directed to fulfil the project requirements. Job Requirements: Competence in working with languages such as C along with Python-based coding and AI development. Have a degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering. Possessing a Master’s or PhD degree will definitely be advantageous. Knowledge of machine learning, pytorch, huggingface etc... Knowledge of image processing is required. Ability to effectively and efficiently utilise industry-standard Linux-based computers for AI. Experience of authoring good quality academic publications. Manage undergraduate research assistants (if appropriate). Liaise with customers and collaborators in A*STAR and NTU, as well as collaborators in the UK and China. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT collaborates closely with industry partners in our research pursuits. Our research staff can gain practical research skills that are directly relevant to industry needs while working on projects at SIT. The main responsibility of this position is to deliver on an industry innovation research project. The Research Fellow/Engineer will be a key member of the research team focused on developing a framework for soil conditioning in Singapore soils through a series of experimental investigations. Additionally, they will work on delivering a novel Screw Conveyor Extraction Test (SCET) equipment, crucial for accurately assessing the effectiveness of soil conditioning in tunneling processes. The proposed framework and equipment will be validated at an active tunneling site. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Execute all experiments (e.g. foam stability test, slump test etc.) reliably. Liaise with the industry partner and agency to plan and execute the field trials. Develop the framework for effective soil conditioning in local soils. Design the SCET equipment and liaise with vendors in its manufacture and assembly. Validate the framework and SCET using findings from field tests. Mentor and provide technical guidance to student assistants involved in the research project. Carry out Risk Assessments, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the equipment. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. This role supports applied food processing research projects with strong industry relevance, focusing on product development, process optimization and food characterization. Key Responsibilities Lead bench formulation of mushroom‑based and plant‑based food products, especially focusing on muscle‑like architectures to achieve required texture, flavour, and nutrition performance during cooking, reheating, and storage. Apply advanced texturisation techniques, including cold extrusion, lamination, and natural tenderisation strategies (e.g. enzyme treatment, solid-state fermentation), to create fibrous, meat‑like structures that replicate bite, chewiness, and elasticity. Translate scalable solutions from upstream processing (e.g. protein gels, fermented ingredients) into robust food formulations by collaboration with culinary experts, and lead pilot‑scale trials at facilities such as SIT FoodPlant to assess manufacturability, reproducibility, and scalability for clinical and consumer studies. Conduct textural, rheological, and sensory characterisation to evaluate product performance and guide formulation refinement. Consolidate formulation, processing, and performance data to support techno‑economic analysis (TEA), life‑cycle assessment (LCA), and cost–benefit analysis (CBA). Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, progress updates, and final deliverables for funding agencies and stakeholders. Engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support progress meetings, technology transfer activities, conferences, and approved communication channels. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, engineers, students, and visiting scholars involved in the projects.
