The Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), known colloquially as Nanhang, is an elite university that was founded in 1952 as the Nanjing College of Aviation Industry, and was renamed in 1956 to the Nanjing Aeronautical Institute. It adopted its current name in 1993.

NUAA, which is a Double First Class Discipline University, as issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education, has evolved from a teaching-oriented university to a research-oriented university, with administration from the Commission of National Defense Science, Technology and Industry.

Although most of its courses are in science and engineering, it also offers integrated courses in applied science, management, humanities and social sciences, with aeronautics, civil aviation and astronautics.

It was one of the first Chinese institutions of higher learning to authorise doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees.

Nanhang has two main campuses - the Ming Palace Campus on the site of a 14th Century imperial palace during the early Ming dynasty, when Nanjing was the capital of China. The second is the Jiangjun Road campus, located in the Jiangning Economic and Technological Development Zone. These campuses cover an area of 173 hectares with a building floor space of 650,000 square metres.

Nanhang has produced many highly cited scientific papers, including works that have been picked up by Nature INDEX. In 2017, the Kun Drag (Kun Long AG600), designed to be the world’s largest amphibious aircraft, had its first successful flight which was co-developed by the NUAA Innovation Centre.

Notable alumni include Sifeng Liu, a world expert on Grey System Theory and Grey Relational Analysis.

Excellent communication skills in English, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential. Successful applicants are expected to publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals in social science or leading interdisciplinary journals, and work both individually and in close collaboration with the C-BID team: Olivier Bochet, Nikos Nikiforakis, and John Wooders. The position provides a salary higher than internationally competitive rates for postdoctoral research positions, in addition to substantial benefits (generous housing, transportation and travel allowances, educational subsidies for children), together with full health insurance and retirement contributions. The UAE does not levy income tax. Appointments will be for two years, renewable for at least one additional year conditional on a satisfactory evaluation of performance. Further information on the UH tenure track system on the webpage. JOB DESCRIPTION Applicants should demonstrate a capacity to contribute to anthropological scholarship at the highest level. Social and Cultural Anthropology at UH has a strong research environment for political economy, ethics and morality, cognitive anthropology, environment and sustainability, location and borders, and linguistic anthropology. Thematic specialisation for this position is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates specialising in political and environmental questions. Anthropology at UH is known for its diverse regional expertise and emphasis on ethnographic research. We are looking for candidates with strong regional expertise grounded in extensive ethnographic research. All regional specializations are welcome, consideration will be given to how a candidate’s expertise complements and enriches the regional profile of the current faculty, which can be found here. An appointee to the position of assistant/associate professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills required for the position. In addition, the appointee shall have the capacity and potential to pursue an academic career at a high level, as demonstrated by publications and other means.  In assessing the applicants’ qualifications, attention shall be paid to scientific publications and research, teaching experience and qualifications, international experience and collaborations, and success in the acquisition of external research funding. An appointee to the position of professor shall hold a doctoral degree and have high-level academic qualifications; experience in leading scientific research; the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise dissertations and theses; as well as evidence of international cooperation in the research field they represent. The appointee shall also have academic leadership skills. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education. The candidate will work under the supervision of Future-GRID TecH director Dr. Mohamed Moustafa to carry out cutting-edge research in the broad area of future structures and resilient infrastructure systems with interest in applications of new and emerging technologies. Particular areas of interest include: structural 3D printing (metals, concrete, and composites) computational mechanics and structural topology optimization vision-based structural health monitoring autonomous and drone-based infrastructure inspection and vibration monitoring Successful candidates must hold a PhD degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Material Engineering. Other related field such as Computer Science, Nuclear Engineering, and Material Science are also welcomed. Required qualifications include: strong communication and presentation skills; a track record in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal publications; and previous or relevant experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student research or junior graduate students. A formal training, education, or certification in a secondary area (beyond the main PhD focus) such as additive manufacturing, advanced/hybrid manufacturing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, etc. is a plus.
