Nanjing Tech University has a history of more than one hundred years as a cradle of education. It is one of the first batch of 14 universities of the Higher Education Innovative Capacity Promotion Plan ("2011 Plan" for short). It is a key institution of higher learning in Jiangsu Province, which is piloting comprehensive reforms and strategy for developing a strong faculty of talents. Nanjing Tech University is among of the first group of institutions of higher learning approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education for the training of "Excellent Engineers" and the comprehensive reform of graduate education for professional degrees.

 

Education

Nanjing Tech University has 11 faculties, 28 schools and over 38,000 students, one first-rate National Key Discipline, one first-rate Jiangsu Provincial Development Base for National Key Disciplines, two Jiangsu University Development Bases for National Key Disciplines and four Jiangsu Provincial Preponderant Disciplines. It has 7 postdoctoral research stations, 9 primary disciplinary categories that offer 38 doctoral programs in subordinate disciplines, 29 primary disciplinary categories that offer 112 Master Degree programs in subordinate disciplines and 101 undergraduate programs which comprise 9 branches of learning, namely, engineering, science, management, economics, liberal arts, law, medicine and art. Nanjing Tech University is ranked 55th in the Chinese mainland universities in ESI 2022 (March) and Chemistry, Materials Sciences are among the top 1‰ in the world, Engineering, Biology & Biochemistry and Environment / Ecology are among the top 1% in the world. We are ranked 38th in Chinese mainland universities in Nature Index 2022 (March), 57th nationally in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 and 54th in Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022.

Nanjing Tech University has more than 3100 teaching and administrative staff among whom there are 10 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences/Chinese Academy of Engineering, 148 National Talents, 14 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 13 Millions of Talent Projects National Candidates and one Huang Danian Teaching Team.

Nanjing Tech University always considers teaching as its central goal, endeavoring to live on quality, develop with distinctive features and foster and optimize the system of talent cultivation. It boasts two National Level Teaching Groups, one National Demonstration Center of Experimental Teaching, one National Best Textbook, twelve National Development Bases for Distinctive Programs, two Piloting Bases for Comprehensive Reforms in Professional Programs of the Ministry of Education, seven Piloting Bases for the Training of "Excellent Engineers" of the Ministry of Education. In addition, it has three National Best Courses, two National Model Courses of Bilingual Teaching, eight Jiangsu Provincial Brand Programs, ten Jiangsu Provincial Distinctive Programs, twelve Jiangsu Provincial Key Major Categories (including 30 majors), three Piloting Majors (software) of Jiangsu Provincial Training Plan for "Excellent Engineers", thirteen Jiangsu Provincial Demonstration Centers of Experimental Teaching, one National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation and five nominations. In 2006, Nanjing Tech University scored A in the Undergraduate Education Assessment by Ministry of Education and passed the evaluation of MOE Undergraduate Education Assessment in 2016. Nanjing Tech University was authorized by the MOE to establish the "China-US Exchange Center for Young Makers" in 2017. Over the years, NanjingTech has cultivated more than 20 leading cadres at or above the provincial or ministerial level, more than 30 academicians of CAS/CAE, and more than 100 leaders of state-owned enterprises and listed companies. 

 

Research

Nanjing Tech University takes pride in its enormous research strength for it boasts 7 national scientific research platforms which are National Engineering Research Center for Biotechnology, National Center for International Research of Flexible Electronics, National Research & Development Center for Heat Pipe Technology, State Key Laboratory of Materials- Oriented Chemical Engineering and National Engineering Research Center for Special Membrane Separation Technology, National Science Park, the Synergetic Innovation Center for Advanced Materials, 28 research centers and 29 key laboratories of provincial and ministerial level. Since the "12th Five-Year Plan", Nanjing Tech University has won more than 500 awards at various levels among which there are 6 Second Prize of National Technological Invention Awards, 6 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Awards, 1 Second Prize of National Natural Sciences Awards.

Nanjing Tech University attaches great importance to the transformation of research achievements and the integration of industry, university and research. Nanjing Tech University Science Park is a national Science Park. Since the "12th Five-Year Plan", Nanjing Tech University has undertaken over 10000 scientific research projects, including those of the "973 Program", "863 Program", National Science and Technology Support Program and the National Natural Science Foundation. The research funding has reached about 7 billion Yuan. The research has yielded a large quantity of high-level achievements and made great contributions to the relevant industries and the economic and social development of Jiangsu Province.

Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  Job Details This Research Engineer will contribute to an international joint project related to policy-making in urban planning and design, focusing on developing a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) framework and tool. The work will involve integrating results from GeoTOPSIS and/or VectorMCDA in QGIS, enhancing spatial decision support for blue–green infrastructure and ecosystem service evaluation. The Research Engineer will lead the software development and interface programming, working closely with the GIS Research Fellow and interdisciplinary project team members to create a user-friendly, scalable decision-support tool for planners and policymakers. As part of understanding the ecosystem services that are involved in Singapore, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform some field-based data collection during the duration of the project. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely completion of all project deliverables. Implement and enhance GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA algorithms within QGIS using Python or equivalent programming frameworks. Develop a user-friendly interface (QGIS plugin or web-based application) for decision-making and data visualization. Collaborate with the GIS Research Fellow to integrate ecosystem service layers and model outputs. Conduct tool testing, validation, and iterative refinement based on stakeholder feedback. Manage documentation, data pipelines, and version control. Support system deployment on a secure project server and ensure cross-platform interoperability. Assist in project management and support the team in facilitating and organizing workshops, stakeholder sessions, and policy dialogues. Be involved in regular field work data collection and to perform environmental and biodiversity surveys (fish, birds and insects) as part of a research team. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Geomatics, Environmental Informatics, or related fields. Strong programming skills in Python, R, or JavaScript for spatial analysis, interface development, or web applications. Experience in plugin or dashboard development (e.g., PyQGIS, Dash, Streamlit, or web-GIS frameworks). Familiarity with GIS concepts and geospatial data structures; experience with QGIS or ArcGIS will be an advantage. Ability to translate analytical models into intuitive, interactive user interfaces. Good teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to learn new tools and frameworks independently. Additional Note: While prior experience with GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA is not mandatory, it will be considered a strong advantage. On-the-job training will be provided to equip the candidate with necessary methods and integration workflows with ecosystem service models and spatial datasets. Key Competencies Strong programming skills (Python/R/JavaScript) for tool and interface development. Ability to implement or learn GeoTOPSIS/VectorMCDA methods in GIS environments. The successful candidate will spend around half of their time working with the wider team in AWE's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Materials Ageing, Performance and Lifetime Prediction. This will include working collaboratively with our six visiting researchers, around 15 Surrey academics and researchers across Engineering and Chemistry, doctoral researchers, and technical staff across the University.
