Opened in 1976, Nagaoka University of Technology is one of two specialist universities of technology in Japan, with the other being Toyohashi University of Technology in Aichi.

The small public university is located in the city of Nagaoka, in the Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The university campus is situated in a suburban area of the city, close to the Echigo Hillside Park, one of Japan’s national parks. There are a number of accommodation options for potential students, including a complex for international students, while all those attending are able to make use of the on-campus store, cafeterias, barbershop, and modern sports facilities.

The university’s aim is to become indispensable within the fields of science and technology, both in Japan and internationally, by continuing to contribute to global research and by producing engineers capable of becoming heads of industry in future generations.

International relations remain key to the philosophy of Nagaoka University of Technology and the university has a high percentage of foreign students in comparison with other Japanese universities. The institution has also developed around 100 cooperative agreements, as well as establishing twinning programs with universities in Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, China and Mongolia.

There are eight major programs of study available to undergraduates, ten for master’s students and four doctoral degree courses as well as a five-year integrated doctoral program.

To mark the university’s 30th anniversary a museum was established in June 2007, known as TechoMuseum Tekumyu, in order to showcase the university’s research and achievements. As well as inviting visitors to see the university's accomplishments past and present, the museum also gives an insight into the university’s future research projects.

The University of Surrey, School of Veterinary Medicine was the first school in the UK with a fully-distributed teaching model. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education. The role We have a part-time (0.6 FTE) 12-month maternity cover position available for an RCVS-registered veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with an enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experience with veterinary undergraduates. This role will support practice-based trained clinical mentors in the delivery of workplace-based clinical education, fostering the individual development, progression and evaluation of final year students toward attainment of day-one competences. Through regular and frequent practice visits to meet with practice clinical mentors and through the provision of one-to-one feedback and coaching of students, the appointee will form strong working relationships with a group of practice partners, assuring the quality of the clinical education experience. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to small group practical teaching, alongside lectures and tutorials to years 1-4 of the Veterinary Medicine programme. The full-time equivalent salary for this role ranges from £37,694 - £46,049 plus an additional 10% payment for continued RCVS membership. As this is a part time role, the pro rata 0.6 FTE salary (including 10% payment) ranges from £24,878 to £30,392 per annum. About you We are looking for someone with an intuitive passion for teaching. Prior academic experience is not a prerequisite, but some teaching experience is beneficial. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of equine first opinion practice.  Due to the nature of the role and the geographical locale of our partner practices, this post would ideally suit someone based in the South East of England. There would be a requirement to be onsite in Guildford to teach, and the remaining time would be used to travel to our partner practices.
