About Komazawa University

Komazawa University is one of the oldest universities in Japan that can trace its early history back to as early as 1592, when the institution served as a Centre of Learning for young Buddhist monks.

The university is located in Komazawa, Setagaya, near to the capital city of Tokyo and the Olympic Memorial Park.

The university comprises of eight faculties and 24 departments and offers a wide range of academic programmes in various disciplines ranging from the arts and humanities to science. The university is particularly popular for its arts programme, while the research centres of the university have also earned prominent recognition in Japan. Komazawa University is especially renowned as a great place to learn Japanese culture and offers a number of courses in Buddhism and Buddhist history.

In order to help students gain a diverse outlook and to facilitate their overall development, the university also offers international exchange and study abroad programmes. Some of the renowned academic partners of Komazawa University include the University of Queensland, Peking University, the University of British Colombia, University of Exeter and the California State University.

The university also offers “KOOMSTUDY”, a study programme designed for students aspiring to improve their Japanese language skills. There are also career centres, a health care centre, the student counselling room and international exchange house to help students make the most of their university life.

The university offers a wide range of scholarships for students.
