The position

International migration and mobility are transforming democratic politics across Europe and beyond. These issues lie at the heart of today’s political debates, influencing power dynamics and necessitating new approaches to policymaking at all levels of government.

We are looking to hire a tenure-track professor who is passionate about understanding the political dimensions of migration and citizenship. We welcome applications from excellent candidates researching at least one of the following aspects of migration: ethnic, cultural or religious diversity; migrants’ political participation and representation; or the role of gender and human rights in shaping migration regimes. We expect the candidate to be committed to cutting-edge research and teaching at all levels (BA, MA and PhD).

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research in the field of migration and citizenship studies which is evidenced by empirical work on the basis of solid methodological skills.

The Department of Political Science is a vibrant and intellectually diverse community of scholars. Our research covers important topics such as comparative politics, politics and gender, international politics, political theory, global health, and sustainability and climate change. By embracing diversity of thought, perspective, and research methodology, we aim to further our understanding of the most pressing political issues and contribute to positive societal change in Europe and beyond. Beyond our department, scholars of migration will find many potential collaborators and peers throughout the Faculty of Social Sciences. In particular, sociology and demography deal with issues such as migrants’ access to welfare states, displacement, emigration and much more. The Department of Arts and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in Visual Communication Design. According to the current plan, a Faculty of Design will be established at the new campus, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees programmes in Visual Communication Design.

Our newly established Visual Communication programme integrates design, technology, research, and is building a world-class team of designers, artists, and interdisciplinary scholars. The programme emphasizes: 1. Cutting-edge practices: motion design, 3D visualization, interactive media, immersive experience design, generative/AI design, and future-driven visual communication strategies; 2. Qualifications

1. Doctoral degree in Visual Communication Design or related areas (or equivalent terminal degree with significant professional achievements); 2. A strong portfolio of design practice; 3. Demonstrated teaching experience at graduate or undergraduate level; 4. International exposure through study, work, exhibitions, or industry collaboration; 5. Proficiency in English; 6. Interdisciplinary or cross-cultural scholarship linking design with technology, humanities, or new media; 7. Expertise in one or more future-oriented areas is preferred: (i) Motion graphics and time-based media; (ii) 3D/CG visualization; (iii) XR/VR/AR; (iv) UI/UX and digital product design; (v) AI-assisted design; (vi) Creative coding/computational design; (vii) Data visualization and information systems; (viii) Immersive exhibition and spatial experience design; 8. Candidates with a commitment to building a young, ambitious programme and contributing to long-term strategic growth of the Faculty of Design will be especially valued.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. As a PhD student (university assistant or prae doc in the Austrian university system), you will work for the ERC project ‘The anthropology of the future: an art world perspective’ (ANTHROFUTURE) led by Prof. Manuela Ciotti (Principal investigator, PI). The project is based at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology.

As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology not only brings together renowned scientists and students, but also different research areas, a variety of ethnographic methods, a large number of outstanding research projects and appreciative collegial exchange.

ANTHROFUTURE focuses on the art world as an interlocked digital and physical system as an ethnographic site. The project uses innovative multimodal methodologies to generate analytical and theoretical advancements on the future as a time-zone in its comparative and political dimensions across the regional contexts under analysis.

As part of the ANTHROFUTURE team, you will carry out an ethnography of the digital-physical art world infrastructure with a focus on art fairs. In particular, the candidate will conduct research online and in person at Art Basel (Basel, Hong Kong, Qatar) and Art Dubai among others.

	Carry out research in full compliance of ethics, data- and best-practice ERC research guidelines (you will receive support in doing that)
	Develop and deliver high-quality, innovative research outcomes on the topic of the research project
	Participate in conferences of appropriate learned societes and associations
	Produce research publications for leading international and/or peer reviewed journals and book chapters for ANTHROFUTURE
	Produce research dissemination materials for the project´s public facing website and social media
	Assist in exhibition projects (both physical and digital)
	Work with the project administrator to ensure that they have the information and materials they need to effect the smooth running of the case study and the wider ANTHROFUTURE project
	Work closely with the PI and the other members of the ANTHROFUTURE research team to assist in research and outcome delivery, and other tasks as agreed with the PI
