About the Job As a Student Records Officer, you will join our busy and dynamic Student Records team to manage UEL student data, including students’ enrolment records, module registration and tuition fees, and to support academic colleagues in our Schools with the management of their student cohorts. You will also play an integral role in supporting students’ enrolment during UEL’s large student intakes, and in supporting the assessment and progression of students, throughout the academic year. CUS focuses on four pillars: research, education, expertise, and innovation, all aimed at improving urban management and citizens’ well-being. Job Description The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of Earth Observation and spatial analytics approaches applied to the analysis and monitoring of urban environmental systems. The research will integrate geomatics, remote sensing, environmental geosciences, and artificial intelligence methods to investigate soil conditions, land-use dynamics, environmental processes, and urban ecosystem functioning. This work aligns with the strategy of the Center for Urban Systems (CUS), which aims to promote sustainable, resilient, and data-driven urban development in Morocco and across Africa. The research will support the understanding and management of environmental challenges in urban areas, including land degradation, soil sealing, environmental risks, and the impacts of climate change on urban landscapes.   Main Responsibilities •    Develop Earth Observation based methodologies for monitoring urban environments, including soil conditions, land-use change, and environmental dynamics. •    Design and implement spatial analytics and geospatial modeling approaches to analyze urban environmental processes. •    Apply machine learning and geospatial data analysis techniques to large Earth Observation datasets. •    Produce high-quality scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and present research results at international conferences. •    Contribute to interdisciplinary research projects within the CUS related to urban sustainability, environmental monitoring, and urban resilience. Key Duties •    Develop spatial analysis tools and geospatial models for monitoring urban environmental indicators. •    Integrate multi-source Earth Observation data (satellite imagery, environmental datasets, geospatial databases) for urban analysis. •    Collaborate with academic partners, public institutions, and urban stakeholders to support sustainable urban planning strategies. •    Contribute to the preparation of research proposals and respond to national and international research funding calls. •    Prepare scientific articles, technical reports, and policy-oriented documents to disseminate research findings. REQUIRED PROFILE •    Ph.D. in Geomatics, Earth Observation, Environmental Geosciences, Geography or a related field. •    Proven experience in remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geospatial modeling applied to environmental or urban systems. •    Strong expertise in geospatial data analysis and machine learning techniques applied to Earth Observation data. •    Proficiency in geospatial software and platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or Google Earth Engine. •    Programming skills in Python or similar scientific computing environments, with experience in geospatial and machine learning libraries. The Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher, IsoMuseomics for a fixed-term period of three years. The work will be based at the Finnish Museum of Natural History LUOMUS at the University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland. The postdoctoral researcher will join the IsoMuseomics project, and work under the supervision of Kyung Min Lee, the Head of DNA Laboratory and University Researcher. This position is part of Lee’s four-year Academy Project, funded by the Research Council of Finland. The successful candidate is expected to start ideally by September 2026. About the position The IsoMuseomics project aims to trace genomic changes across a wide time span - up to 200 years - to understand how environmental changes have impacted their genomic diversity. The project focuses on Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) as model system, that are currently threatened or vulnerable, which serve as important ecological indicator. By analysing historical specimens from museum collections (dried and pinned specimens), we can investigate how these changes are encoded in their DNA, across both spatial and temporal scales. The majority of genomic data will be generated from historical museum specimens, which typically yield highly fragmented DNA. The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily responsible for:  Designing and analysing genomic datasets derived from fragmented whole-genome data Conducting genome assemblies and SNP calling Performing phylogenomics and population genomic analyses Contributing to manuscript writing Qualifications  The position requires:  A doctoral degree relevant to the project (e.g., biology, genomics, evolutionary biology) Less than seven years since obtaining the PhD  Ability to conduct independent scholarly work Strong collaboration and communication skills Teaching skills necessary for the position  Excellent written and spoken English skills  Highly valued qualifications: Experience working with highly fragmented genomic data and museomics Strong bioinformatics skills Proficiency in command-line scripting and programming Knowledge of phylogenomics and population genetics Why conduct a postdoctoral project at the University of Helsinki? In November 2024, the University of Hong Kong LKS Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed) was appointed as the operator of GBAICTI. In December 2025, the Real-World Study and Application Centre (RWSAC) was established under GBAICTI to open up local health and medical databases and promote collaboration between Hong Kong and other GBA cities. We are now seeking a high-calibre professional to join the RWSAC (located at Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone) as Data Scientist.
