Ilam University of Medical Sciences was founded in 1995. It is a public university officially recognised by the Ministry of Health and the Medical Education of Iran. The university has a medical centre that offers research, education and healthcare to the local community and surrounding areas.
The university is located in Ilam, a city in western Iran.

The position

International migration and mobility are transforming democratic politics across Europe and beyond. These issues lie at the heart of today’s political debates, influencing power dynamics and necessitating new approaches to policymaking at all levels of government.

We are looking to hire a tenure-track professor who is passionate about understanding the political dimensions of migration and citizenship. We welcome applications from excellent candidates researching at least one of the following aspects of migration: ethnic, cultural or religious diversity; migrants’ political participation and representation; or the role of gender and human rights in shaping migration regimes. We expect the candidate to be committed to cutting-edge research and teaching at all levels (BA, MA and PhD).

The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research in the field of migration and citizenship studies which is evidenced by empirical work on the basis of solid methodological skills.

The Department of Political Science is a vibrant and intellectually diverse community of scholars. Our research covers important topics such as comparative politics, politics and gender, international politics, political theory, global health, and sustainability and climate change. By embracing diversity of thought, perspective, and research methodology, we aim to further our understanding of the most pressing political issues and contribute to positive societal change in Europe and beyond. Beyond our department, scholars of migration will find many potential collaborators and peers throughout the Faculty of Social Sciences. About this position:

As a university assistant pre-doc, you will join the Managerial Accounting research team led by Univ.-Prof. Thomas Pfeiffer. We conduct research using analytical methods in the areas of managerial accounting with a focus on contract theory, incentive systems, and corporate governance. Your personal sphere of influence:

The working group “Probabilistic and Interactive Machine Learning” within the research group “Data Mining and Machine Learning” at the Faculty of Computer Science, led by Prof. Tschiatschek, develops methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence, especially in the areas of reinforcement learning and deep probabilistic models.

To strengthen our team, we are seeking a university assistant to develop advanced machine learning methods for improving the simulation and optimization of distributed systems, for instance by specializing neural ODEs and their training routines.

This research will address challenges driven by the energy transition, which is transforming electrical power systems (EPS) into low-inertia, highly digitalized, power-electronics-driven architectures with increasingly interdependent component and system dynamics. Traditional simulation and optimization approaches, which separate EPS analysis and simulation by timescale into isolated zones with independent models and solvers, are no longer sufficient.

New methods are needed to tackle emerging challenges across timescales, from real-time operational control to long-term planning for optimization and expansion. This creates a demand for fast, flexible modeling frameworks, such as surrogate models to accelerate high-fidelity simulations, physics-informed neural networks, neural ODEs, and other hybrid physics–ML approaches.

The contract term for employment is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not issue a non-renewal notice within the first 12 months.

Department of Chinese History and Culture 

The Department of Chinese History and Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities.  Its mission is to offer high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that provide interdisciplinary training in the study of Chinese history and culture.  Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Chinese History and Culture, two minor degree programmes in Chinese History and Culture and History of Science and Technology in China, respectively, and university-wide general education courses. The University is now inviting applications and nominations for the post of Head of Department of Chinese History and Culture. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold a concurrent headship appointment.  The concurrent headship appointment is normally for an aggregate period of six years in two three-year terms of office.  Other suitable candidate(s) from the search, if deemed appropriate by the University, may be appointed as Chair Professor/Professor if not Head of Department.

Job Functions

The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Department.  Reporting directly to the Dean of Faculty of Humanities, the appointee will be required to:

(a)    provide effective leadership in the development of long-term strategies and plans of the Department, in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan; and coach and empower subordinates so that they can accomplish planned objectives with world-class standards and in an effective and efficient manner;

(b)    ensure high-quality teaching as well as holistic development of the students, and align the Department’s programmes with the needs of the community;

(c)    facilitate the conduct of innovative and original research of high quality and impact, and promote and develop genuine interdisciplinary / departmental research with the optimal use of research funds;

(d)    provide leadership in technology development and digital humanities to extend the impact of research outcomes of the University to the community;

(e)    provide leadership in developing a strong network of partnership with leading tertiary institutions for opportunities and collaboration in education, research and knowledge transfer activities;

(f)    enhance the local and international networks of partnerships and linkages with the community, particularly the professional, public and business sectors, so as to gain their support for the major strategic initiatives of the University;

(g)    ensure effective internal communication that leads to a transparent decision-making process and promote the Department’s strengths and other services to all relevant stakeholders;

(h)    ensure optimal deployment of human, financial and other resources in the Department;

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Chinese History and Culture or a relevant discipline, evidence of eminent scholarship and substantial relevant experience in a senior academic position;

(b)    attainment of an academic rank of full professor or above at an internationally recognised university;

(c)    a distinguished international reputation in research and scholarship, and demonstrated international leadership in any one or more of the specialist areas of Chinese Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, Chinese Religion and Chinese Art;

(d)    a strong record in attracting competitive or/and interdisciplinary research funding;

(e)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching;

(f)     a global perspective, proven qualities of academic leadership and substantial administration / management experience, as well as demonstrated ability of building up a strong team of faculty members with different research and cultural backgrounds;

(g)    effective interpersonal communication skills and resources management skills, and excellent adaptability to changes and challenges; 

(h)    good knowledge of the higher education environment in the local and global context; and 

(i)     a high standard of personal integrity.
