Description New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Junior Research Scientist to work on a series of research projects focused on the links between institutions, firms, labor, and migration in developing countries. The junior researcher will work closely with faculty to support existing projects as well as develop new projects using both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and administrative data. Working directly under the supervision of Professors Morgan Hardy and Veda Narasimhan, the position offers an exceptional opportunity to build strong academic research skills—including the development of new research projects, papers, and publications—to facilitate highly competitive applications to PhD programs. The successful candidate will be given a high degree of responsibility and oversight for the research projects. Responsibilities include the management of primary data collection in the field, data cleaning, analysis, and the management of data replication packages for publication. Additionally, the candidate will conduct literature reviews, assist with grant writing and proposals, draft exhibits, manuscripts, and papers, prepare conference and seminar presentations, and support all other aspects of the publication and revision process. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree (BA) or a Masters in Economics or a related discipline, though additional majors that broaden the candidate's overall skill scope are preferred. Required experience includes prior experience working directly on academic papers and projects, alongside a high degree of proficiency in econometric methods and statistical analysis tools, such as Stata or equivalent statistical software. We are particularly interested in candidates who possess a demonstrated interest in topics related to political economy, firms, labor, and migration. We are seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher in Structural Health Monitoring and Condition Assessment of Bridges to join the Structural and Bridge Engineering Research Group in the Department of Civil Engineering at Aalto University. Your role and goals The successful candidate will conduct doctoral research at the intersection of structural engineering and artificial intelligence. The research will focus on advancing methods for monitoring, assessing, and managing civil infrastructure through innovative sensing technologies and data-driven approaches. The research topics include: Structural health monitoring of bridges and other civil infrastructure Finite element analysis Laboratory and field-based structural testing and data acquisition Direct and indirect sensing methods for bridges, including remote sensing techniques Machine learning and artificial intelligence for infrastructure condition assessment Damage detection and software/application development for structural assessment The doctoral degree will be awarded upon successful completion of advanced doctoral coursework (30 ECTS), preparation of an article-based doctoral dissertation, and a successful public defence of the thesis. Description The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on "Application of Membrane Desalination to Treat Water from UAE Feed Sources," under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering and Professor Raed Hashaikeh, Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on developing advanced, high-flux membrane technologies tailored to the unique and extreme water conditions of the Arabian Gulf. He/she will tackle challenges related to high salinity (up to 47,000 ppm) and severe biological fouling, driving innovations in high-pressure Reverse Osmosis (RO) processes. The role involves characterizing local seawater and desalination brine to inform targeted membrane design, as well as advanced membrane fabrication techniques utilizing electrospinning, phase inversion, and additive manufacturing. The researcher will also develop robust pretreatment processes (MF, UF, NF) to protect systems against harsh regional challenges, including harmful algal blooms. Experimental and theoretical investigations of mass transport, compaction, and energy efficiency will be performed to optimize desalination processes for regional sustainability. The successful applicant will oversee projects, develop extensive technical expertise, and implement innovative solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently addressing complex challenges. Responsibilities will include writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at conferences. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of membrane fabrication, characterization, and separation processes. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
