Fu Jen Catholic University is a private institution located in the vibrant city of New Taipei in northern Taiwan.

The university teaches more than 25,000 students across 11 colleges and offers courses in subjects ranging from philosophy to Italian, and medicine to Catholic studies. It has an international outlook with more than 300 sister institutions across the globe.

Fu Jen Catholic University was established in Beijing in the 1920s by Benedictines and moved to the island nation of Taiwan in 1961 with the help of the Society of Jesus, Society of the Divine Word and the Regional Bishops’ Conference. The university symbol includes a laurel wreath, representing peace, and 12 stars symbolising the Virgin Mary. Fu Jen’s motto roughly translates to truth, goodness, beauty and sanctity.

A Catholic university hospital is under construction next door to Fu Jen. The shape of the building is inspired by Noah’s Ark, while the green design includes a planned hanging garden for patients.

Fu Jen University Station, a stop on the Taipei metro, is adjacent to the university offering easy access to the city of New Taipei with its night markets, temples and museums, while the country’s subtropical climate is ideal for excursions to nearby waterfalls, hot springs, beaches and mountains.

Students and staff can fly from the Asian tiger’s capital to the metropolises of Shanghai and Hong Kong in under two hours, while the Philippine city of Manila and the South Korean capital, Seoul, are accessible in under three hours.

Famous Fu Jen alumni include Wang Guangmei, a former first lady of China.

Description As part of the Electrical Engineering program of the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at NYU Abu Dhabi the group of Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos seeks to improve the autonomy of Field Robotic systems by fusing control theoretic and machine intelligence approaches. Formal models are directly applied in real experimental facilities. Marine Robotics is our current emphasis, without excluding candidates with prior experience on Aerial or Ground Systems. We are seeking a Post-Doctoral associate to join our expanding team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong engineering skills to find innovative and cost-effective means to improve our research, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to enhance our multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence. Methodologies of interest include: Robot modelling, Nonlinear and Optimal control, Reinforcement learning, and Data-driven modeling and control. The Post-Doctoral associate will be based at NYU Abu Dhabi and will directly report to Prof. K.J.Kyriakopoulos in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The Post-Doctoral associate will engage with our regular collaborators at local institutions in the UAE and abroad. Key responsibilities Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on Control theory and ML methodologies for Field Robotics; Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda; Reproduce results of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods; Design and implement experiments on real platforms operating outdoors, to compare our proposed work with SOTA baselines; Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and conferences; Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility; and Collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi. Minimum Qualifications Possessing a Doctoral degree from a recognized institution in Electrical, Mechanical, Naval or Aerospace Engineering. First-author peer-reviewed published papers (and/or under review) Demonstrable research experience involving integration of hardware and software of robotic systems. Demonstrable research experience in conducting experiments for field robotic systems Proficient programming experience in embedded, real-time software in C/C++ and Python with several years of practice Experience in maintaining high-quality code on Github Ability to visualize experimental results Effective inter-personal and team-building skills Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and in a team to get the work done Excellent communication skills (oral and written communication) Willingness to learn and confront new challenges The appointment will be for two (2) years with the option to renew further depending on performance. Description The SHORES Center at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in the area of Digital Twins and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Smart Infrastructure Management Systems to work under the supervision of Professor Borja García de Soto, director of the S.M.A.R.T. Construction Research Group and Co-PI in the SHORES Center. The successful candidate will also collaborate with researchers and other Investigators from the SHORES Center on project related to the advancement of multidisciplinary research supporting the digitalization of the built environment. The selected researcher will expand the current research in the area of AI- and ML-powered digital twin frameworks for civil, energy, and built-environment infrastructure. These frameworks integrate IoT-enabled sensing and real-time analytics to support continuous monitoring, data-driven evaluation, and predictive maintenance. The work also address user comfort and indoor environmental quality (IEQ) as key dimensions of infrastructure performance. This research forms part of a broader effort to design smart, adaptive, and resilient Infrastructure Management Systems that leverage digitalization, automation, and intelligent decision-making. Key Responsibilities include conduct cutting-edge research on the integration of Digital Twins with AI/ML technologies for infrastructure lifecycle management. Develop and validate computational models for monitoring and predicting infrastructure performance. Collaborate with faculty and researchers across SHORES. Disseminate research findings through high-impact publications and conference presentations. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in related projects. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with a focus on Digital Twins, AI, ML, or smart infrastructure systems.
