About Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after Mykhailo Tuhan-Baranovsky (DonNUET)

Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after Mykhailo Tugan-Baranovsky (DonNUET) was established in Ukraine in 1920 to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses to students. Upon the university’s 50th anniversary, they were awarded the Diploma of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. In 2007, it was given its national status by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.

The university is situated in the industrial city of Donetsk, which was formerly known as Yuzovka after the Welsh Businessman, John Hughes, founded steel and coal businesses in the area, and arguably founded the Donetsk area itself. The city of Donetsk also has several cultural and historical offerings, from the opera and ballet theatre to Donbass Palace.

The university was founded by Mikhail Ivanovich Tugan-Baranovsky, known for his contributions to science and economics, as well has his role during the period of national liberalisation.

The university has three institutes: economics and management; accounting and finance, and food production. There are also three faculties: marketing and trade; restaurant and hotel business, and work with foreign students. In addition to these academic departments, Donetsk National University has technical schools in mining, design and finance, to offer students a more practical learning approach.

Postgraduate courses are offered in 13 disciplines, including food technology, economic theory and physical chemistry. Doctorate courses are also offered, over five disciplines: economic theory; business management; money, finance and credit; processes and equipment of food; and economics and national economy management.

The university has several international partnerships in countries such as Bulgaria, Belarus and Turkey. Students can also choose to attend summer school classes in Northern Cyprus at the Eastern Mediterranean University International Summer School. Many students contribute to the university’s international image by participating in sporting competitions across the world.
