Applications are now invited for the following post: Research Assistant Professor Department of Sociology and Social Policy (Post Ref.: 25/302) The Department of Sociology and Social Policy brings together scholars with international research experience and publication records in the major areas of Sociology and Social Policy. Over the years, our faculty members have been the recipients of the University’s Research Excellence Award and Teaching Excellence Award. The Department offers undergraduate teaching in Sociology, Social and Public Policy, and Health and Social Services Management, while hosting an MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP). General Requirements Applicants should have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree in Sociology, Social Policy or any discipline related to computational social science, or an equivalent qualification for no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment, with relevant teaching and research experience. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English are essential. The appointee should be able to take up teaching duties in some of the courses on the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) Programme, including but not limited to: “Introduction to Social Data Sciences”, “The Social Impact of AI”, “Science and Technology”, “Consumption and Society”, and “The Making of Hong Kong”. The appointee should be prepared to actively support the coordination and development of our teaching programmes, as well as the research endeavours of faculty members in the areas of Sociology and Social Policy. The team comprises pre- and post-award services, contracting and consultancy support. Support includes tailored financial and contractual advice and management to all researchers at Durham, from planning, costing, and pricing the initial proposal to ensuring that contracts and agreements are negotiated effectively and efficiently, to ensuring robust financial management and compliance of awarded projects. As a Pre Award Research Manager within the pre-award team, you will play a key role in supporting and developing externally funded research grant activity by providing high quality support and advice to academic staff in the preparation, submission and contractual negotiation of research grants and awards. Description We are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Social Science at NYU Abu Dhabi from individuals who have or will soon receive a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline in the social sciences. The appointment will begin September 1, 2026, subject to final budget approval and is available for up to three years. The post-doctoral associate will spend half their time on independent research, and half their time on collaborative research with Professor Stéphane Helleringer. The collaborative research will be on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries, with an emphasis on measurement issues and the impact of crises such as epidemics and disasters. The job entails conducting high-quality research on population health and its determinants in low-and-middle-income countries. This includes conceptualizing research questions, designing empirical studies, collecting or acquiring new data sets, and analyzing these data using advanced statistical models and visualization techniques. The job also emphasizes the dissemination of knowledge about population health, particularly through the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, software packages and/or participation in international conferences. Candidates must hold a PhD in demography, epidemiology, public health or related discipline in the social sciences. The ideal candidate is preferred to have prior experience with data collection and collaboration in low-and-middle-income countries and good knowledge of R or other software for data management, analysis and visualization. The position does not require teaching, but it may be possible to get teaching experience for compensation.
