institution

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is a private university founded in 1921 as both an academic and an ecclesiastic institution.

The university offers degrees in medicine, economics, law, social sciences and humanities. Most courses are taught in Italian but some degrees are available in English too, including international relations and global affairs, healthcare management, economics and management, agricultural management, medicine and surgery. The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore medical school is one of the most selective in Italy.

The university’s campuses are spread across four cities: Milan, Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona and Rome.

In Milan, the university inhabits a beautiful Cistercian monastery near Basilica of Sant’ Ambrogio. In Piacenza, courses take place at the Palace Ghisalberti. The sports centre in the Piacenza campus covers 8,000 squared meters and offers activities ranging from football, volleyball and basketball to capoeira and table tennis. The university’s medical campus is in Rome; students do their medical practice at the teaching hospital Agostino Gemelli University Polyclinic. In Brescia, the campus is right in the midst of the historic centre of the city, and the head office is situated in the Palazzo Martinengo Cesaresco Kite.

Noteworthy alumni include post-Keynesian economist Luigi Pasinetti, politicians Amintore Fanfani, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, banker Angelo Caloia, fashion designer Nicola Trussardi, religious leaders Paolo Sardi and Angelo Scola, and young entrepreneur Augusto Marietti.
