The role We are seeking an outstanding Research Fellow to help spearhead research to understand the relationship between EEG-defined oscillations during sleep and excessive sleepiness during the daytime in people living with Parkinson's and to develop and implement neuromodulation approaches to alleviate daytime sleepiness. The project is funded by Aligning Science Across Parkinson's and the William J. Fox Foundation, and will be conducted at the Surrey Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey. The research is part of a collaborative effort between researchers at the Universities of Surrey, Oxford, Harvard and Zurich. The successful applicant will, together with other researchers and clinical staff members, be responsible for conducting the clinical research protocol, analyses of EEG and behavioural data, deliver neuromodulation interventions, and prepare publications. Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Neuroscience or related subject area, have experience in clinical neuroscience research and have excellent data analysis and programming skills. The successful applicant will be an active member of the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, and is expected to collaborate closely with researchers at Oxford, Harvard and Zurich About you Crucial skills include EEG analysis and programming. Desirable skills are prior experience of working with human participants patients, particularly those with dementia or other cognitive disorders, experience in assessing cognitive function using standardised and experimental tasks, conducting non-invasive brain stimulation and/or EEG recording procedures. We are now looking for three Postdoctoral Researchers to work on the theoretical foundations of distributed quantum computing. Our long-term objective is to understand which distributed tasks admit a quantum advantage, especially in the context of the LOCAL model of distributed computing, and what the fundamental limits are. Your network and team You will work in the research group of Jukka Suomela. This is one of the leading research groups in the areas of theory of distributed and parallel computing; our work frequently appears in the top conferences of the field (recently e.g. STOC, SODA, ICALP, PODC, and DISC), and we have received a number of awards, e.g. the best paper award at FOCS 2019. These positions are supported by an ERC Advanced Grant (Distributed Quantum Advantage, 2026–2031) and a QuantERA grant (Quantum Network Algorithms, 2026–2029); in the QuantERA consortium we have partners in Canada, Czechia, France, Germany, and Italy. Your experience and ambitions A successful candidate has a recent doctoral degree in a relevant area of theoretical computer science, mathematics, or physics, and an outstanding research track record as demonstrated by publications in leading conferences and journals. It is sufficient that you will receive your doctoral degree before the contract starts; you can apply for these positions already before you have your degree. We value expertise in domains such as graph algorithms, parallel algorithms, computational complexity theory, models of computing, automata theory, graph theory, discrete mathematics, probability theory and stochastics, and linear algebra. We also value skills in e.g. using computational techniques in TCS, familiarity with modern AI tools, familiarity with proof assistants such as Lean, good communication skills, and ability to work both independently and as a member of a large research team; a good command of English is necessary. You do not need to be yet an expert in distributed graph algorithms and quantum information theory, as long as you are familiar with the relevant areas of mathematics and are willing and able to learn. What we offer Our postdoc positions are fixed-term contracts for 1–3 years, with start dates between October 2026 and October 2027 (negotiable). The current salary for a postdoctoral researcher is 4229.48–4418.69 € per month depending on experience and qualifications. The Vietnamese-German University (VGU) is seeking a highly qualified full-time lecturer in Communications Engineering & Signal Processing. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in this field or a closely related field and have a strong background in research. Relevant international experience is of advantage. The successful candidate will become part of an international network of universities and research institutes. Teaching Responsibilities In the role of a lecturer, the successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the Electrical Engineering (MEE) program and undergraduate courses in the Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) program. The expected workload for the in-class lecture conduction is 08 academic hours per week, totaling 240 academic hours per year (1 academic hour equals to 45 minutes). Teaching should reflect current research methods and results. The following modules are potential courses that the successful candidate may teach, though they are not fixed and may change based on the needs of the programs and agreements between the lecturer and the relevant academic departments: MEE Modules: Wireless Communications Optical Communications Statistical & Adaptive Signal Processing Detection & Pattern Recognition ECE Modules: Digital Signals & Systems Communications Engineering The named courses are subject to change upon realistic needs of the programs and joint agreement between the lecturer, relevant Academic Coordinators, and Dean/Vice Dean in charge of teaching. Courses may require conducting relevant laboratory activities and/or advising student projects. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to play an active role in the establishment, development, and continuous improvement of laboratory facilities in their area of expertise at VGU. The holder of this job is also responsible for supervising bachelor's and master's theses as well as other student research projects and mentoring Ph.D. students. Research Responsibilities As a faculty member of a research-oriented university, the successful candidate is expected to significantly contribute to the scientific profile of VGU through innovation. This includes and is not limited to comprehensive activities in basic research as well as applied research in the fields of communications, signal processing, and related disciplines. The ability to apply and generate externally funded research projects is highly desirable. Administrative responsibilities The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the development of the MEE and ECE programs by participating in administrative, marketing and other public activities of the programs in consultation with the Academic Coordinator of the MEE study program and the German partner university, namely the University of Stuttgart. She or he is also expected to contribute actively to the academic self-administration of the Faculty of Engineering and university by being willing to stand for election to the Faculty Council, Academic Senate and/or other bodies. Qualification Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a major in Communications Engineering, Signal Processing or a closely related field, preferably from a well-known international university. A current title of Professor will be a plus, as experience and understanding of the German higher education system and methodology. Other requirements include: An outstanding academic record with a focus on Communications Engineering, Signal Processing or other areas closely related to it Proven expertise in Communications Engineering and/or Signal Processing.
