Masaryk University

Czech Republic, Brno

Department: Bioinformatics Core Facility – Central European Institute of Technology Deadline: 29 Jul 2026 Start date: September - December 2026 Job type: full-time Job field: Science and research Come to CEITEC MU in Brno and join us! We are a dynamic, growing team of bioinformaticians and data scientists at CEITEC, building the European infrastructure for secure, federated analysis of sensitive genomic and health data – and we are looking for a Senior Researcher / Staff Scientist in Federated Genomic Data Infrastructure About this position The Bioinformatics Core Facility at CEITEC works on the infrastructure for storing, sharing, and – above all – performing federated analysis on sensitive genomic and other omics data across Europe. Through the ELIXIR research infrastructure and initiatives such as the Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI), the 1+Million Genomes (1+MG) initiative, and Genome of Europe, we are one of the major players in this field in Europe. This is highly collaborative, distributed work. Much of it does not happen within a single lab but across a network of partners – institutional IT teams, national infrastructure bodies, and collaborators across Europe – and our role is to coordinate and integrate these efforts, keeping them moving. A growing and increasingly important part of the work is enabling AI, and in particular agentic AI systems, to operate safely on sensitive data within this distributed infrastructure, in service of translational and clinical research and the wider handling of sensitive healthcare data. We are looking for a senior, independent researcher / staff scientist to take a leading technical role across these projects – someone who can drive their own work, coordinate and mentor more junior colleagues, and act as a confident point of contact with our partners. This is a highly visible, Europe-wide role at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and the life sciences, and it is fundamentally about handling a complex, multi-party effort rather than working in isolation. Your profile Must-have: A PhD (or equivalent experience). We have no hard requirement on the specific field, provided it falls within the range from bioinformatics through to computer science and IT/software development, or a closely related technical area Solid, hands-on experience spanning bioinformatics analysis and workflows, bioinformatics infrastructure and software for data analysis, and/or broader IT and software development, in a rapidly evolving environment where AI is becoming inherent to everything we do; experience with omics and multi-omics data is a strong plus. The ability to work independently and largely unsupervised, taking ownership of projects from idea to delivery Comfort coordinating a distributed, multi-party effort – connecting contributions across teams and partners and keeping work moving forward Excellent communication skills, with the versatility to speak the language of both IT/engineering and of biologists and clinicians The ability to present ideas and results clearly, and to guide and coordinate more junior members of the team Fluency in English (spoken and written) Nice-to-have: Experience with sensitive / health data, federated analysis or federated learning, cloud, and containerized infrastructure Interest or experience in enabling AI – including agentic AI systems – to work with sensitive data Experience working in international or European collaborative projects A collaborative mindset and the curiosity to keep learning in a fast-moving field What we provide to you A senior role in a dynamic, young, and growing team working on Europe-wide, genuinely meaningful problems A highly competitive salary Open access to CEITEC MU core facilities and state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, with experienced staff Full-time contract Flexible working hours Support for further education and professional development Benefits package: 6 weeks of paid holiday, medical insurance, financial contribution to meals and kindergarten/pension scheme, Multisport card, mental health care, and sports lessons directly at the Kindergarten Elánek on Campus Support in these areas: Welcome Office service before and after arrival Grant Office support Postdoc Peer Committee CEITEC events workshops, conferences, lectures, training, family gatherings, etc. How to apply? Application deadline: 29.07.2026 Start date: September - December 2026 Applications, including a CV, a list of publications, and a motivation letter with contacts for at least two references, should be submitted via the e-application below. Selection Process: An interview with the research group leader, which takes place throughout the duration of the job posting. Any trouble with the e-application? Please contact HR – Darja Horáková (darja.horakova@ceitec.muni.cz).
