Latin America University Rankings 2022

The Times Higher Education Latin America University Rankings is based on the same 13 rigorous performance indicators that underpin the THE World University Rankings, but the weightings differ to reflect the characteristics of Latin America’s universities. We evaluate universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

The 2022 ranking includes 197 institutions across 13 countries, up from 177 institutions last year. The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is number one for the fourth consecutive year, while Brazil’s universities of São Paulo and Campinas hold on to second and third place respectively.

Argentina has a new top university, with Austral University in 44th place. University of the Andes remains Colombia’s best-performing university, at 13th. The highest new entry is Brazil’s Federal University of Paraíba, at 78th.
