The University of Galway – Ollscoil na Gaillimhe was founded in 1845 as Queens College, Galway. It then became a constituent college of the National University of Ireland and changed its name to University College, Galway. It retained this title until 1997 when the Universities Act changed it to the National University of Ireland, Galway. In 2022 it rebranded as University of Galway – Ollscoil na Gaillimhe. The university was given special responsibility to use the Irish language as the working language of the college. The university has five colleges including the college of arts, social sciences and Celtic studies, college of business, public policy and law, college of engineering and informatics, college of medicine, nursing and health sciences and the college of science. The university has more than 110 active societies and more than 50 sports clubs. The oldest society is the literary and debating society which was founded in 1846.

Job Purpose:  The Research Engineer will support applied research and innovation in environmental sustainability, working with internal teams and industry partners to develop practical solutions. The role focuses on translating scientific concepts into scalable solutions that address challenges in meeting environmental sustainability target through resource efficiency, waste management, and other sustainable solutions for various industries. Research engineers will collaborate closely with faculty, professional officers and industry partners to execute commercially viable solutions that address real-world challenges. Key Responsibilities: Applied Research & Development Conduct reviews on sustainability literature, frameworks and assessment tools for both generic industry-wide and industry-specific applications, such as life cycle analysis (LCA), environmental impact assessments, energy analysis and resource optimization studies Develop sustainability solution road mapping and development framework to supports identification and follow-through of sustainability solutions for organizational green transition. Description NYUAD Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on the development of membrane desalination to treat water from the Arabian Gulf feed sources and on the design and scale-up of low energy membranes for water purification, under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering. The successful applicant will drive an exciting project on developing functional membrane materials, including nanostructured polymer membranes tailored to microfiltration, ultrafiltration, membrane distillation, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis. The candidate will employ advanced membrane fabrication techniques and characterization tools (SEM, TEM, DSC, TGA, BET, etc.) to establish fabrication-structure-property-performance relationships in novel materials for sustainable desalination and water treatment. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate students and undergraduate students. The successful applicant will manage projects and work closely with postdoctoral researchers, build deep technical knowledge and develop transferable solutions. He/she will participate in developing novel concepts and writing proposals. He/she will work towards solving complex problems with efficiency and creativity. He/she will be involved in writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents and presenting results at conferences. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of materials science and engineering, membrane fabrication techniques, membrane characterization tools and separation processes. He/she will be detail-oriented, well-organized and will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, and have at least six years of experience in the field, along with extensive research and publication in well-known journals and conference papers or similar research accomplishments. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project (in particular membrane fabrication and characterization) are required.
