Australia is one of the the top destinations for international students, with some of the best universities in the world. 

However, students are often discouraged from studying abroad when faced with the complex visa application. While it can a difficult process to wrap your head around, it’s worth going through to be able to study in a country such as Australia.

What type of visa is required? Student visa (subclass 500)
How much does a visa application cost? AUD$710
What are the language requirements? Applicants from some countries will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or a 46 TOEFL iBT or equivalent. Required scores can be reduced if you also take an intensive language course. More information here. Some universities have their own language requirements, which may be higher.
How much money do I need to prove I can support myself? At least 12 months of course fees, plus AUD$24,505 for living costs, and travel costs of up to AUD$3,000. Alternatively, you can show that your parents or partner had an annual income of at least AUD$62,222 in the 12 months before your application. More information here. 
Are there any additional charges? Applicants might also have to pay fees for health checks, police certificates and biometrics.
Can I work while studying?  Students can work up to 40 hours every two weeks when their course is in session, and unlimited hours outside of term time. 
What are the post-study work options? The temporary graduate visa allows graduates to stay in Australia to work, study or travel for two to four years depending on the course. The visa costs AUD$1,650 and applicants must show they have attained a certain level of English.
When should I apply for my student visa? 90 per cent of higher education student visas are processed within four months.
