China Subject Ratings

THE (Times Higher Education) has been providing trusted performance data on universities for students and their families, university academics, university leaders, governments and industry, since 2004.

The THE China Subject Ratings, launched in 2020, are the only performance tables that judge Chinese institutions against their global peers based on the Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification of subjects. The ratings measure research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, international outlook and knowledge transfer. They enable Chinese students to make an informed choice based on familiar subjects when it comes to one of the biggest decisions of their lives – who to trust with their education.

The ratings use 11 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons. With 82 subjects included, the ratings provide grades across more subjects than any other major rankings or ratings provider.

All universities included in the THE China Subject Ratings are participants in THE’s flagship World University Rankings.
