About the Role 

As Vice-President, Governance & Assurance, you will lead Swinburne’s Governance, Performance & Assurance Portfolio. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and serving on the Executive Group, you will provide trusted advice to the Chancellor, Council and senior leaders on governance, institutional performance, assurance and regulatory readiness. 

You will lead an integrated portfolio spanning university governance, Legal Services, risk, compliance, integrity, information rights, policy, institutional planning and performance, and Internal Audit support. You will strengthen decision-making, accountability and assurance while protecting the independence of key professional functions and supporting Swinburne’s Ad Astra strategy. 

About You 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate: 


	Executive leadership experience in a complex, regulated or public-purpose organisation, including responsibility for people, budgets and change. 
	Experience advising governing bodies and senior executives on governance, performance, risk, legal, regulatory and assurance matters. 
	A strong record of improving governance, including delegations, decision rights, committees, escalation and assurance. 
	Experience leading institutional planning and performance, and connecting priorities, measures, resources and executive decisions. 
	Exceptional integrity, judgement and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, provide frank advice and manage sensitive matters. 


Qualifications 


	A relevant postgraduate qualification, or equivalent executive experience, in governance, law, risk, assurance, public administration, business or a related field. 
	A legal qualification is desirable but not essential. The role does not act as the University’s legal adviser; legal advice must be provided by General Counsel and/or appropriately qualified and practising legal professionals. 
	Relevant professional membership or credentials are desirable. 
	Higher education, government, statutory authority or comparable complex public-purpose experience is highly desirable.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the advancement of advancing special education, Inclusive Education, Disability Studies and strengthening support for learners with diverse educational needs in the UAE and the wider region through research, consultancy, professional development, and engagement with the education community.

About You


	You will be an accomplished academic with an earned PhD in Special Education or a closely related discipline relevant to the position such as Inclusive Education or Disability Studies and a strong academic background in the field.
	You will have a record of university-level teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision, together with the ability to prepare and support professionals working with learners with disabilities and diverse educational needs.
	You will demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly research and publications in reputable, internationally recognized, Scopus-indexed journals. You will also be able to demonstrate research quality and impact through your scholarly contributions, relevant research metrics, and experience in developing collaborative research projects. Experience in securing competitive external research funding will be an advantage.
	Candidates must have an academic record commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor should demonstrate a sustained record of research excellence, academic leadership, and significant scholarly and professional contributions appropriate to professorial appointment.
	You will also bring the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners, contribute to academic programme development and quality enhancement, and support the Academy’s strategic priorities. Experience in international research collaboration, interdisciplinary projects, accreditation, and institutional development will be particularly valuable.
	Excellent proficiency in English is essential, while proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable given SEA’s bilingual academic and professional environment.


Essential Qualifications and Experience


	Doctoral qualification: An earned PhD in Special Education or a closely related discipline relevant to the position such as Inclusive Education or Disability Studies.
	Academic background: A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Special Education or a closely related field relevant to the position.
	University ranking: A PhD awarded by a university ranked among the top 400 institutions in the latest applicable QS World University Rankings.
	Academic appointment: A record of academic achievement appropriate to appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
	Research and publications: A strong record of scholarly publications in reputable, Scopus-indexed journals, demonstrating research quality, productivity, and impact.
	Teaching excellence: Demonstrated experience in university-level teaching, curriculum development, and the preparation of professionals to support learners with disabilities and diverse educational needs.
	Student supervision: Proven experience in, or demonstrated capacity for, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, appropriate to the academic rank.
	Academic and professional engagement: Evidence of collaboration with educational institutions, schools, educational support services, professional organizations, or relevant government and community partners.
	Experience in externally funded research, a strong research profile evidenced by appropriate metrics such as the H-index, international collaboration, and academic programme leadership will strengthen an application.

The appointee will support the undergraduate Common Core course CCAI9034 Digital Health Citizen in the Age of AI: Communicating for Health and Wellbeing. The course explores how health information and AI shape personal choices and community wellbeing. Students learn to evaluate digital health information, recognise misinformation and bias, and design ethical, audience-centred health messages through case studies and AI-assisted campaign projects.

Key Responsibilities


	Conduct tutorials and practical sessions: Lead discussions and hands-on activities on health communication, digital health literacy and AI; guide case analyses and campaign projects; and provide individual support with concepts introduced in lectures.
	Grade and provide feedback: Assess student work in coordination with the instructor, give constructive feedback, and respond to questions about assignments and course concepts.
	Support course administration and management: Help prepare, update and organise course materials and resources, including on Moodle, and assist with classroom activities and assessments.
	Foster an inclusive learning environment: Encourage participation from students of diverse backgrounds and support collaborative projects and engaging tutorial discussions.
	Maintain communication with the instructor: Report on student progress, attend meetings as needed, flag classroom issues, and keep abreast of relevant developments in AI and health communication.


Requirements


	Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, media studies, psychology, sociology, public health, or a related field.
	Strong command of written and spoken English.
	Professional or academic experience with AI and/or health communication is preferred.


Working Hours and Compensation


	The position requires approximately 8 hours per week. The appointee must attend lectures on Wednesdays, 15:00–16:50, and lead assigned tutorials scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays. Duties also include preparation, grading and course administration within the weekly workload.
	Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, calculated on an hourly basis.

The University of Southampton is seeking a Fire Safety Officer to support the Fire Safety Manager in delivering fire safety activities across its campuses. The role will help develop safe working practices, deliver fire safety training, identify risks and issues, and build fire safety knowledge and confidence among staff and students.

The post holder will conduct fire risk assessments across the University estate in line with the risk-based Fire Risk Assessment programme and liaise with stakeholders to support the completion of any associated remedial work as required.

The post holder will also provide specialist advice on all aspects of fire safety management, helping line managers implement the health and safety policies, practices, processes and procedures developed by Health & Safety within the Legal, Governance, Risk and Health & Safety directorate.
