Position Summary:

Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher – Valorization of complex phosphate ores.

Duration: 12 months.

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research project focused on the sustainable valorization of complex phosphate ores through innovative comminution and classification strategies. The successful candidate will play a leading role in advancing research on autogenous grinding as a low-energy alternative for liberating indurated phosphates. This project integrates mineralogical and mechanical characterization, pilot-scale testing, and advanced process simulation, with the objective of optimizing grinding performance and enhancing resource recovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mineral processing, comminution modeling, and ore characterization, and will contribute to developing an integrated beneficiation strategy that reduces operational costs, and energy consumption. This research aligns with broader goals of promoting circular economy practices and technological innovation in the Moroccan phosphate mining sector.

Area of Research:

Sustainable mineral processing, with a focus on the valorization of complex phosphate ores.

Main responsibilities:


	Conduct a detailed literature review on the valorization of complex phosphate ores.
	Design and implement mechanical, mineralogical, and rheological characterizations of indurated phosphate.
	Lead the design and execution of lab-scale grinding and classification trials based on experimental design.
	Contribute to the numerical modeling of beneficiation circuits (e.g., using USIMPAC or similar software).
	Analyze, interpret, and report the outcomes of simulations and pilot tests.
	Draft technical reports and scientific publications.
	Coordinate with internal researchers, external labs, and industrial partners.


Candidate Profile:

Required qualifications :


	PhD in Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering, Georesources Engineering, or related field.
	Proven experience in ore characterization techniques (mechanical, mineralogical, physical).
	Solid knowledge of comminution technologies and mineral beneficiation processes.
	Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
	Excellent written and oral communication skills in English or French.
	Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.


Preferred qualifications :


	Experience in grinding technology.
	Familiarity with process simulation software (e.g., USIMPAC, MODSIM, METSIM).
	Prior collaboration with industrial partners.
	Good knowledge of phosphate ores and North African mineral context.

Job Description:

The International Water Research Institute (IWRI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in desalination and water treatment, within the framework of an applied research project.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with demonstrated expertise in seawater desalination pretreatment, with a particular emphasis on the Membrane-Based Processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, optimization, and scale-up of advanced pretreatment solutions for seawater desalination.

The selected candidate will join a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment, characterized by a strong tradition of integrating fundamental research with applied engineering to deliver impactful, real-world solutions to pressing water challenges.

Key Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:


	Seawater monitoring and characterization:
	Planning and conducting periodic sampling campaigns of raw seawater, and monitoring its physicochemical and biological quality.
	Data analysis and modeling:
	Processing and analyzing seawater quality data and developing statistical and mathematical models to correlate feed-water characteristics with pretreatment performance.
	System design and laboratory experimentation:
	Designing, assembling, and operating a lab-scale Membrane-Based system for seawater pretreatment, including system configuration, optimization, and performance validation.
	Operation and maintenance protocol development:
	Developing and implementing a comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) protocol to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Membrane-Based system.
	Pilot-scale testing and field deployment:
	Organizing and conducting field missions and pilot-scale trials to assess the efficiency, robustness, and operational behavior of the Membrane-Based pretreatment process under real seawater conditions.
	Performance assessment and process optimization:
	Collecting and interpreting operational data, diagnosing performance limitations or fouling issues, and proposing data-driven corrective actions and process improvements.
	Reporting and knowledge transfer:
	Preparing high-quality technical reports, datasets, presentations, and documentation for internal team.
	Scientific dissemination:
	Contributing to peer-reviewed scientific publications and presenting research outcomes at national and international conferences.


Qualifications & Requirements:


	PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Water-Process Engineering, Membrane Materials and Processes, or a closely related discipline.
	Relevant experience in desalination and/or filtration systems, at laboratory, pilot, or industrial scale.
	A strong background in ceramic membrane materials and processes is a significant advantage.
	Mandatory hands-on experience with water treatment processes.
	Experience in water quality analysis for evaluating and monitoring the performance of water treatment systems.
	Proven experience in leading or contributing to research projects is highly desirable.
	Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas, build upon existing concepts, and develop novel, practical solutions.
	Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
	Fluency in English and French, both written and spoken.
	Demonstrated ability to write high-quality scientific manuscripts suitable for publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
	Willingness to travel for fieldwork and project-related activities; a valid driver’s license is required.

The Position

Applications are invited for appointments as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials and Energy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Appointees will be expected to conduct frontier research in the fields of advanced materials and energy and sustainability technologies, deliver high-quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students, engage in knowledge transfer and industrial collaboration activities, and provide administrative support to the University, Faculty and Department. 

Appointees at the Associate Professor level will, in addition, be expected to provide academic leadership in collaborative and interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange initiatives, mentor and support emerging scholars and researchers, and take on more substantive service and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Requirements

They should also possess teaching and research experience in any relevant areas with a proven track record and strong potential for research, scholarly publications and competitive external funding.

What We Offer

The appointment will initially be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, to commence in March 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms subject to approval.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. The research group of Prof. Sunil Kumar in the Division of Engineering, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Scientist to conduct research in the area of microfluidic devices. Research in Prof. Kumar’s Lab focuses on developing paper based microfluidic platforms for translational medicine applications, including immunoassays and cell migration assays, cell culture applications and disease diagnosis, as well as new methods for spheroid and organoid culture for drug testing. The role

This is an exciting new opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral fellow in health data-sciences and biomedical informatics to join the Veterinary Health Innovation Engine (vHive) and the University of Surrey’s Health and Biomedical Informatics Group. The overall objective for the postholder is to work within these multidisciplinary teams to apply and repurpose techniques in informatics, data sciences, machine learning and AI, to develop new insights and approaches to improve animal health and welfare. This will include assuming responsibilities for informatics- and computational-led data analysis to identify new opportunities via market analysis, drug repurposing/discovery, formal knowledge representation, and precision medicine-led biomarker discovery to complement new therapeutic veterinary medicine approaches.

This work is contextualised into a programme award from our sponsors Zoetis (the largest animal health corporation globally) that seeks to support their interests in key disease issues. The post will thus involve collaborative working with industry partners, charities, as well as other universities and research institutes across the UK and internationally. The job holder will develop, repurpose and use new research techniques and methods, in consultation with the research supervisor and with input from Zoetis employees. These studies will include assessing interview and stakeholder data for unmet need definition, in-silico drug repurposing and trial research, critical evaluation and interpretation of biomarker discovery datasets (and in particular proteomics and transcriptomics), plus extensive library research. 

The overall programme of research will be jointly developed by Prof. Nophar Geifman and the person appointed. There are opportunities to broaden out into other areas such as new algorithm development, and advanced computational methodologies for integrated analyses. 

About you

You will have a key role in planning, designing and executing a range of analyses on varied novel projects aimed at high-impact and theoretically valuable research questions. Strong quantitative research skills with hands-on real-world experience are essential. You must have experience in the application of informatics pipelines to health and biomedical data (outside educational settings). You will need good communication skills, and able to work with and disseminate information to both academic and non-academic audiences. You will have a PhD in health, medical or bio-informatics, epidemiology, data sciences, or a related subject, ideally with a focus on utilising large-scale health/biomedical data and the application of advanced data analysis methods such as machine-learning. Equivalent research or industry experience will also be considered. Excellent statistical and analytical skills are necessary, as are programming skills, ideally with the ability to work in R and experience with bioinformatic tools/software. Coding in other languages such as python, is an advantage.
