It all started in 2006, when the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) was founded to promote research and graduate studies at the University of Sharjah and realize the vision of its founder and former president, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a vision that calls for advancing the University of Sharjah as a pioneer institution of excellence in research, research publication, and graduate studies programs. In 2014, the CGS became a unit of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies OVCRGS), contributing to the advancement of top-of-the notch research in collaboration with the university’s academic colleges and research institutes.
Currently, the CGS offers 17 Ph.D. programs, 50 master’s programs, and three higher diploma programs, all of which are carefully designed to help students thrive personally, academically, and professionally. Besides, all these programs are delivered in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where faculty and staff make things easily accessible to students and go that extra mile for them. According to the 2019-2024 University Strategic Plan, the CGS will increase the range of its programs, diversify them further, and align them more with the University’s novel propensity towards multidisciplinary, impactful, and sustainable research.
The CGS’s objectives include promoting and publishing high-quality research; equipping researchers and specialized professionals with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed for the implementation of the UAE’s plan for sustainable development; enhancing academic capabilities to keep pace with the rapid scientific and technical progress; enabling outstanding undergraduate students to continue their graduate studies at the CGS; and helping to improve undergraduate programs to serve as a strong foundation for graduate studies.
