The university's main campus is located in Winterthur, a city in the canton of Zurich in northern Switzerland. Winterthur is the country's sixth-largest city by population and is situated approximately 20km northeast of Zurich. While the official language is German, the local spoken language is the Alemannic Swiss German dialect, Zurich German. ZHAW has two additional campuses in Zurich and Wädenswil. The university comprises eight academic schools: applied linguistics, applied psychology, architecture, design, and civil engineering, health sciences, life sciences and facility management, engineering, management and law, and social work. Within each school, various institutes and departments offer a wide range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate levels. To facilitate academic and scientific exchanges, ZHAW has established partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide, including the University of Technology, Sydney in Australia, the University of Helsinki in Finland, and the Corvinus University of Budapest in Hungary. The Chair will continue the legacy of Dr Shirley and John with a unique opportunity to access the Sarks archives as part of their research program. The Opportunity Based within UNSW Medicine & Health’s School of Clinical Medicine, this role represents a unique opportunity to drive world-class research into age-related macular degeneration (AMD) the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in developed countries and other blinding eye diseases. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This project focuses on federated causal inference in heterogeneous data environments, addressing the challenge of enabling trustworthy causal analysis across distributed datasets while preserving privacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel federated learning strategies for causal inference. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on algorithm design and development on real-world datasets. The core responsibility is to build and validate federated causal inference algorithms through simulations and live demonstrations. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of novel performance metrics for federated causal inference algorithms. Analysis of causal inference models in federated settings using synthetic and real-world datasets. Design and development of novel federated causal inference algorithms and associated software APIs. Validation of algorithms via simulations and live demonstrations. Job Requirements A Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent. Strong theoretical background in statistics and machine learning. Knowledge of the basics of federated learning and causal inference is highly encouraged. Proven track record in research and development of machine learning algorithms. Proficiency in algorithm development using Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35%)  ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR  The field of the position is medical genetics and the language of instruction is Swedish. The position may be filled as assistant professor, associate professor or professor depending on the candidates’ merits and career stage. The professorship in medical genetics is associated with a research director’s position at Folkhälsan Research Centre. Applicants must submit separate applications for the professorship and the research director’s position. An appointee to the position of assistant professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position. In addition, applicants for assistant professorships shall demonstrate their ability and motivation for an academic career through publications and other means. When considering applicants’ qualifications, account shall be taken not only of their research work and teaching qualifications, but also of their success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and other international experience. An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide toplevel research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader.
