The University of Vigo, founded in 1990, is a public institution located in the autonomous area of Galicia in north western Spain. It prides itself to be a Galician, international-looking university.. 

Its premises are divided into three campuses. The Lagoas-Marcosende campus, which is 15 kilometers away from the city of Vigo, focuses on technology. The Lagoas campus in downtown Ourense centers on water research that produces social and economic value. The Pontevedra campus, also located in an urban setting, mixes arts, sports and humanities.

The degrees offered at the University of Vigo spread across science, technology, social sciences, law and humanities. However, the university is also considered one of the most technical universities in Galicia, with a particular focus on telecommunications, computer science, industrial engineering and environment engineering. 

The institution's campuses are lively, with a lot of small film festivals, concerts, art exhibitions and sports taking place throughout the year. The Outdoor Campus is an experiment the university has undertaken where students improve their teamwork spirit and skills, and strategic thinking and problem solving ability by getting involved in sports and socio-cooperative games. Sports you can try out on campus are fencing, introductory rugby, tennis, archery and athletics. 

The University of Vigo is the only Spanish higher education institution to have sent two micro-satellites into space. It publishes the interdisciplinary journal of marine studies Thalassas

Description The Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Research Engineer to support the design and implementation of interactive AI and data science platforms across the Center’s research clusters. The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers and faculty across domains such as Foundations of Data Science, Enabling Technologies, Health, Education and Personalized Learning, and Bias, Ethics & Privacy, contributing to the development of prototypes, interfaces, and software infrastructure that translate research outputs into usable tools. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain web-based and AI-powered platforms supporting CIDSAI research projects. Collaborate with faculty and postdocs on projects such as: Mathematical Collaboration Platform, Personalized Learning Systems and SmartClass AI Tutors, Health-focused conversational AI and multimodal interfaces, Bias detection and fairness-aware tools for ethical AI. Integrate machine learning models, visualization dashboards, and backend services. Contribute to data collection, testing, documentation, and dissemination of open-source resources. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong programming skills. Experience with machine learning frameworks and backend systems. Familiarity with cloud computing, API integration, data visualization, and database management. Ability to work in interdisciplinary research environments bridging theory, applications, and ethics. The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal. The project: RE-SECURE – Remaking Security: Technopolitics in the Global East explores how expertise developed under past political regimes can be renegotiated and adapted for new security purposes. Focusing on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as a region marked by profound political transformations from the Cold War to the present, the project rethinks the study of security by theorizing how ways of “doing security” are shaped by history, technology, and global connections. The project examines both the symbolic and material dimensions of remaking security, while combining desk research, archival work, and field research. By analysing how technoscientific practices interact with societal understandings of security risks and global politics, RE-SECURE aims to develop an original, historically grounded, and decentered perspective on security from the perspective of the “Global East.” Your future tasks: The postdoctoral researcher will lead a case study on cybersecurity in Estonia, examining how Cold War cybernetic expertise has been reworked in the context of post-socialist security transformation of Estonia, especially towards the digital statehood, cybersecurity, and cyber-defence politics. The case study research will involve document analysis, field research with scientists, experts, and policymakers, and archival work in Estonia. The postdoc will contribute to the theoretical and methodological research on the project and will collaborate closely with the Principal Invetsigator and PhD student. The Role and the Department Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including securing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development.
