Located in Ceske Budejovice, better known abroad for its tradition of brewing under the Habsburg-era name of Budweis, the University of South Bohemia was founded in 1991 by the merger of local faculties of education, dating to 1948, and agriculture, formed in 1960. The faculties of biology, theology, social sciences and health were added at the time of foundation, followed by arts, economics and fisheries and water protection in the first decade of the present century. It defines itself as "A research university focussing mainly on natural science, social science and humanities" and in 2018 it offered 228 undergraduate majors including 30 options in English and three in German. The study of biology, aided by the presence of the Czech Academy of Science’s national research institute in the city, is a particular strength. A degree in biological chemistry has been offered in partnership with the University of Linz, Austria since 2007. Ranked seventh for research among Czech universities in the 2019 Nature Index, the university has specialist laboratories focussed on ant ecology, with extensive research in Borneo and Papua New Guinea, and on archaeobotany and palaeocology. The Centre for Polar Ecology is an affiliate of the University of the Arctic Network. Water scientists have developed a new species of carp and assisted local industry by using crayfish to analyse the quality of water used in brewing. Campus architects have aimed to create an "English-style park" whose features include the Czech Republic’s second "Havel’s Place" feature, a table and chairs laid out for conversation in memory of the playwright-turned-President. Alumni include Hynek Kmomicek, Czech ambassador to the USA, who took a master's in classical guitar and education.

CEPLANT is also included on Roadmap of Large Research Infrastructures of the Czech Republic. CEPLANT boasts a rich network of cooperating institutions in the world. Cooperation with colleagues in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary is expected within the proposed position. Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the PVDLab at CEPLANT (Masaryk University, Czech Republic), working at the forefront of plasma-enabled materials design for next-generation energy storage. Our research explores high-entropy ceramic thin films as a new platform for all-solid-state alkaline-metal-ion batteries, using magnetron sputtering as a non-equilibrium materials design tool. This position sits at the intersection of physics, materials chemistry, and engineering, with a strong emphasis on fundamental research with high application potential. You will work in a state-of-the-art experimental environment, combining thin-film synthesis with advanced characterisation techniques including SEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, nanoindentation, cyclic voltammetry, and EIS, complemented by access to European partner facilities (e.g. TEM, tribology, high-temperature and oxidation testing). The exact research direction will be shaped by your expertise and aligned with ambitious ongoing projects currently under evaluation by major funding agencies. Key Duties: Design and optimise magnetron sputtering processes for complex, multicomponent thin films. Independently carry out thin film deposition experiments. Perform advanced materials characterisation, analyse results, and drive iterative experiment design. Publish results in leading international journals. Working in alignment with the University's research strategy, the appointee will undertake innovative, high-impact research in bionanotechnology and regenerative medicine. This nationally recognised program aims to advance fundamental understanding and translational applications within the discipline. Funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project, "Understanding Transient Cellular Response to Electrical Stimulation (DP250101190)," the role will focus on developing cutting-edge methodologies to investigate live cell responses to electrical stimulation with high spatial and temporal resolution. The Research Fellow will design and implement advanced bioinformatics pipelines to interrogate stem cell biology using multi-omics approaches, including RNA sequencing, proteomics, and secretomics datasets. Responsibilities include integrative analysis of complex molecular data, interpretation of cellular response mechanisms, and close collaboration with experimental researchers to uncover pathways regulating stem cell function and fate. The successful candidate will be supported to build an independent research profile through structured mentorship in competitive grant writing and opportunities to contribute to, and lead, fellowship and project applications. They will play a key role in planning and delivering high-quality research projects, establishing productive research networks within RMIT and with local and national partners, and producing impactful research outputs that strengthen the School's research excellence and reputation. We are looking for candidates with their knowledge and experience in the key focus areas: Essential Expertise in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, ideally working with human mesenchymal stromal/stem cells, and/or induced pluripotent stem cells. Expertise in bioinformatics, including RNA-sequencing, proteomics, secretomics, and pipeline development. Evidence of research outputs including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field. Novel Fibre Reinforced Polymer–Steel–Concrete Transition Structures for Offshore Wind Turbines (FRESCO) is a new research project funded by the Supergen Offshore Renewable Energy Hub. It aims to develop a novel glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP)–steel–concrete tower-to-monopile transition structure for offshore wind turbines, with a focus on improving structural efficiency, durability, and ease of installation. Your work will include the development of advanced numerical models of the transition system, alongside the testing of a scaled prototype structure to demonstrate proof of concept. You will lead the technical activities related to modelling and experimental testing, including the design of test programmes and interpretation of results. Full-time, 12-month fixed-term opportunity, with possibility for extension Exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use on an MRFF-funded trial of an online intervention to improve mental health and help-seeking among adolescents Base Salary $109,263 - $121,054 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use provides a world-first synergy of leading prevention, early intervention and treatment research and translation programs in substance use and mental disorders. The Matilda Centre brings together researchers in broad fields to share skills, integrate data, and harness new technologies to develop and trial innovative prevention, early intervention and treatment programs for substance use and mental disorders. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join our research team and evaluate a school-based digital intervention to improve youth mental health. In this role you will coordinate research activities and a randomised controlled trial, funded by the Medical Research Future Fund, for a social connection intervention to improve adolescent mental health (the Mind Your Mate program). You will work collaboratively with the Mind Your Mate project team, supervise junior research staff, and aid the Chief Investigator and Senior Research Academics. This is an exciting opportunity that is open to qualified academic Level A. The level at appointment will be determined on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Your key responsibilities will be to: Lead day-to-day coordination of the randomised controlled trial, including ethics applications and relevant approvals, data collection and management, recruitment, preparing progress reports for funder, liaison with trial participants, project staff and web developers, management of the project budget and ensuring rigorous and ethical implementation of the trial procedures and protocol Initiate, implement and coordinate recruitment strategies, making use of a range of strategies, including engagement with educational professional bodies, and direct recruitment through contact with schools.
