The University of Seoul was founded in 1918 as Kyung Sung Public Agricultural College. It places a strong emphasis on environmental engineering, urban planning, taxation science, transport and landscape engineering.

In addition, the university offers vocational courses. The institution is one of the most prestigious in the country and associates itself with the ideals of liberal education, peace-keeping and democracy-building.

 The university campus includes more than 220 buildings spreading over more than 4 million square meters. Luckily there is an app that helps students get their heads round the immense campus.

Mostly funded by the state, the University of Seoul has a culture of social involvement. Students regularly get involved in volunteering and social work. As a result, the Social Welfare Center on the main campus assists the needs of more than 100,000 senior citizens and disabled people per year.

The university encourages social engagement by offering a yearly Service to Society Award to a faculty member committed to helping others.

The university has formed many of South Korea’s political and cultural personalities. Notable alumni in politics include Ahn Cheol-soo, founder of security software provider Ahnlab; UN ex-Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Korea’s 1988 Prime Minister Lee Hyun-jae; South Korea’s former president Kim Young-Sam; and minister of foreign affairs between 2008 and 2010, Yu Myung-hwan.

Alumni in arts, academia and culture include authors Yangji Lee, Kim Chi-Ha, Kim Seungok; film directors Jo Sung-hee, Jang Sun-woo and Min Kyu-dong; painter Oh Junggeun and Lee Ufan; architects Kim Swoo Geun and Min Hyun Sik and others.

Description The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Project) for a one-year period, with the possibility of renewal conditional on excellent performance. The Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Research) will support advanced, quantitatively intensive research at CTED with a primary focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computational analysis. The Junior Research Scientist will play a central role in supporting research design, algorithmic development, data analysis, and coding tasks across CTED’s interdisciplinary projects. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Yaw Nyarko, and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), Dr. Raša Karapandža, the Junior Research Scientist will contribute to AI-driven and blockchain-enabled research related to commodities markets and economic development. The role requires strong foundations in mathematics and computer science, including statistical learning, optimization, simulation, and algorithmic reasoning. The successful candidate will use programming and computational tools (including Python, MATLAB, and related libraries) to develop, test, and evaluate machine learning models; review, proofread, and execute formal mathematical proofs; implement optimization and simulation-based methods; and analyze large and complex datasets. Responsibilities include supporting experimental and field-based research, preparing literature reviews, translating complex AI and mathematical findings into clear written outputs, and contributing to research reports, concept notes, and academic publications. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field (e.g., Economics with a strong mathematics background). and have less than five years of relevant research experience; or hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with any level of research experience. Applicants must have extensive coding experience, and preferably, applicants will have experience conducting field research in emerging countries and working on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Applicants with experience working in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and/or MATLAB, a strong interest in economic and quantitative research and the willingness to learn about the blockchain, are encouraged to apply. Experience in web development, blockchain, commodities markets, and technology and economic development will be considered a plus. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, working autonomously, but as a team member under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Description The Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and AI (CIDSAI) at NYU Abu Dhabi is a cross‑disciplinary hub where mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, and social scientists join forces to push the boundaries of data‑driven discovery. Our mission is two‑fold: to advance fundamental theory in probability and machine learning, and to translate those breakthroughs into high‑impact tools that serve the UAE, the wider Arab world, and global society. We are seeking a Post-doctoral Associate to join the team to work under the theme of Computational & Interactive Health under the supervision of Dr. Farah Shamout & Dr. Hanan Salam and in close collaboration with Prof. Nizar Habash. The researcher is expected to have strong machine learning & AI skills and exemplary passion and motivation to pursue multidisciplinary research at the intersection of computing and healthcare. The project has three main objectives: (a) developing robust computational methods for decision-making in health based on clinical use cases of interest, (b) building a tailored health-focused Arabic knowledge interactive language model through the development of benchmark datasets, evaluation frameworks, and specialized LLMs and AI agents, and finally (c) designing specialized interactive multimodal multi-lingual natural interfaces. Applicants must have a PhD, MD, DDS, or equivalent advanced or terminal degree from a recognized institution of higher learning, with no more than five years post receipt of this.
