The University of Crete is one of Greece’s most illustrious higher education institutions. 

This modern university has campuses in two cities on the island of Crete: Rethymnon, where the faculties of education, philosophy and social, political and economic science are located, and Heraklion, which has the faculties of science and engineering and medicine.

The university has a strong record of producing internationally significant research and has founded three of Crete’s prominent research institutions: the Natural History Museum, Skinakas Observatory, and the University General Hospital.

Although all of the university’s undergraduate courses are taught in Greek, the university's mission includes international cooperation and integration. It has staff and student exchanges with over 200 universities, and was selected as an Erasmus success story for its efforts to welcome international students to Crete.

Crete itself is one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations. Its white sand beaches draw in sunbathers and swimmers, while its rich history makes it a must-see for fans of culture and architecture. Crete shares much of its heritage with Greece, but also has its own ancient culture inherited from the Minoans– the earliest known European civilisation, of which Crete was the homeland. The legendary Minoan ruins of Knossos can still be seen today.

Both Heraklion and Rethymnon are filled with examples of Venetian architecture dating from Crete’s invasion by Venice in the 13th century. Heraklion, as the island’s capital, has many of its best museums, as well as the stadiums for its sports teams, while Rethymnon is famous for its unspoilt old town.

Location: City Campus – Festival Plaza / Kaurna Country View Position Description About the Role Flinders University is seeking a proactive and motivated individual to join our team as Student Services Advisor (Flinders Online) for our online students and be an integral part of our City Campus Services team. In this dynamic role, you will support Flinders Online students across the entire student lifecycle, providing high‑quality guidance on enrolment, course requirements and university processes. As a key point of contact, you will deliver accurate and engaging information that helps students transition confidently into their studies and fosters a strong sense of connection. Working within a skilled team and collaborating with services across campuses and portfolios, you will contribute to seamless, student‑centred support. Based at the Flinders City Campus, you will also provide flexible assistance to the broader campus services team as operational needs arise. As the Student Services Advisor (Flinders Online), you will be a key on-site contact to students and be required to: Provide timely and high-quality enrolment and course advice services to Flinders Online students, including coordinating proactive calling campaigns, managing complex enquiries to resolution, and ensuring compliance with University policy, procedures, and legislation. Act as the primary contact for student lifecycle services, including enrolment changes, load management, class registration, leave of absence, withdrawals, international compliance and re-admittance ensuring warm referrals, oversight to completion and timely resolution Collaborating with Colleges and Portfolios to support communication strategies and other initiatives, including optimising Flinders Online content and materials to ensure information is accurate, clear, and accessible, providing students with consistent, supportive guidance throughout their learning journey. The role is also expected to provide flexible support to the broader City Campus Services team, contributing to shared priorities and assisting with operational needs as required. The incumbent may be required to work within the City Campus hours of operation, these being Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm. Hours worked may be undertaken on a rostered arrangement. About You Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be the key to your success, as you provide high quality customer service and demonstrate the ability to build, maintain and enhance relationships with students, staff and stakeholders through constructive and collaborative interactions. As a Senior Scientist in this position, you will be part of the Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics Group around Professor Bernadett Weinzierl. The Aerosol Physics and Environmental Physics (AEP) Group at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna combines highly-sophisticated laboratory, ground-based and aircraft experiments with innovative modelling to study the fundamental physical and chemical properties of aerosol particles and clouds. Current research focuses on related but different areas of aerosol science and covers the whole size spectrum from the nano- to the microscale. We are looking for a motivated Senior Scientist to extend our team.  The position is limited to the duration of an employee's absence due to parental part-time employment (July 2027). If the employee is not returning full time, the position can be extended by mutual agreement. Your future tasks: You will be involved in unique ground-based and airborne research projects in collaboration with top scientific institutions such as NASA and NOAA as well as large-scale aircraft measurement campaigns (e. g. SABRE, INSPYRE, and others). You will be in the field for large-scale aircraft measurement campaigns including SABRE, INSPYRE, and others (typically several weeks per year). Your research will focus on airborne in-situ observations of coarse mode aerosols and clouds. You will contribute to the organization and implementation of ground-based and airborne field campaigns. You will develop novel methods e.g. for the calibration of in-situ aerosol cloud probes including a droplet generator, and analyze data from airborne and ground-based field experiments. You will independently teach courses as defined by the collective agreement, and contribute to the (co-) supervision of students. You will contribute to the success and self-organization of the group for research, help with some administrative tasks and participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance. You will contribute to outreach by international publications, conference presentations and public activities. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design and teach labs & practice modules. Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry. Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research. Ensure safety in labs. Job Requirements A good degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Masters, PhD and/or relevant professional certifications would be advantageous. Track record in project leadership and impactful industry experience in Chemical Process Technology. Deep technical specialist with 10 or more years of working experience in unit operations (e.g. Heat Exchanger, Distillation Column, Reactors, Cooling Tower etc). Practical knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Engineering standards including but not limited to ISO9001, OSHA and BSI etc. Practiced in Chemical Process Design software (for e.g. HYSYS) Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and related methods, with a focus on biopharmaceutical analysis would be an advantage. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.
