About Union University
Basic information and contact details for Union University
Union University is a private, four-year liberal arts university with a Christian ethos. It is the oldest university affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
Union grew out of a merger of several schools, the oldest of which was the Jackson Male Academy, founded in 1823.
Eighty-five per cent of teaching staff have a PhD or the highest degree in their field. There is a low student-to-faculty ratio of 10:1. Union University has one of the highest student retention rates of any regional university.
A broad range of academic programmes are available in the divisions of the arts and sciences, business administration, education and human studies, nursing, pharmacy and theology and missions. Undergraduate and graduate courses are available, as well as a range of courses for adult learners.
The university takes its Christian heritage seriously and seeks to create a Christ-centred learning environment. There are several avenues for Christian students to develop their own faith. Upperclassmen can become Life Group Leaders, responsible for befriending and guiding a small group of younger students. All students are welcome to attend the university chapel. The university also offers the chance to get involved in leading a service, with a student-run chapel every Friday.
Union University’s campus housing has been highly rated, with private bedrooms for all students and on-site laundry facilities. The campus is located in Jackson, Tennessee, with smaller sites in Germantown and Hendersonville.
Over 60 clubs are active at Union, including six Greek organisations and several academic fraternities.

We are seeking a highly motivated Marine Ecologist to join our collaborative research group at the University of Southampton. This position is funded by the NERC C-FLOOR highlight topic and offers a unique opportunity to investigate how physical disturbance, specifically bottom trawling, influences the capacity of marine sediments to act as net sources or sinks of carbon, nutrients and greenhouse gases. Specifically, you will undertake a series of manipulative laboratory experiments and field surveys (using sediment profile imaging technology) to link changes in carbon, nutrient stoichiometry and greenhouse gas dynamics with the effects of trawl gears, fishing intensity, sediment types, species composition, and seasonal timing. This position is highly collaborative requiring active engagement with partner institutions across the UK to ensure integrated project outcomes. The role requires that you take a leading role in dissemination of novel findings through high-impact, peer reviewed academic publications while continuously developing advanced technical skills and research competencies within a world-class marine science environment.
