Founded in 1845, The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) is internationally recognised as one of Europe's top university-level institutions in the visual creative disciplines, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programmes in art, design and architecture disciplines. With a proven history of producing some of the world’s most influential and successful artists, designers and architects, the GSA’s specialist practice-led education draws talented individuals with a shared passion and concern for visual culture from all over the world. 

Based in the heart of the vibrant and creative city of Glasgow with connections across the globe, our studio-based teaching and world-leading research spans art, design, architecture, innovation and technology, making a significant difference to contemporary society. Glasgow is a great city to live in if you are a student at the GSA, and the creative spirit of the city buzzes through its festivals, cultural institutions and events, as well as its DIY scene and grassroots organisations and groups. 

The Glasgow School of Art has four specialist Schools, offering undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research programmes – the School of Fine Art, the School of Design, the Mackintosh School of Architecture and the School of Innovation and Technology.

In recent years the School has also established an idyllic Highlands and Islands campus in Moray in the north-east of Scotland. The campus is a centre for postgraduate study, research and innovation, offering students and researchers the opportunity to study and live in one of the most beautiful and biodiverse parts of Scotland.

The School also has a representative office in China, and maintains important connections and partnerships with institutions across Europe and the rest of the world, offering exchange opportunities and collaborating on projects with international students, tutors and practitioners

The School of Design welcomes applications to lead its popular one-year Masters in Graphics / Illustration / Photography at an exciting and pivotal time for the programme with a recently expanded staff team. The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping a relevant and ambitious curriculum, where exceptional academic leadership, truly student-centred teaching and bold curriculum innovation informed by contemporary creative practice sit at the heart of the programme’s vision. The post holder will drive programme success, expand postgraduate provision and champion equality, diversity and accessibility, ensuring the MDes remains at the forefront of communication design education. They will contribute to research and knowledge exchange, support staff development and help extend GSA’s postgraduate reach locally, nationally and internationally. As a key member of the Design Senior Management Team, the successful applicant will take an active strategic role in strengthening the wider School of Design and enhancing its global reputation.
