German Jordanian University is a public university which was founded on 25 April 2005 in accordance with a memorandum of understanding between the governments of Jordan and Germany. The university, popularly known as GJU, is primarily centered towards facilitating the exchange of young professionals between Europe and the Middle East. The university’s primary vision has been to assist Jordan in producing highly proficient technical graduates through global and regional collaboration. Located near Madaba Jordan, GJU follows the German approach of industry-centered educational practices and an application-oriented approach to knowledge. As a part of the educational programme, the students are required to spend their fifth year in Germany dedicating 50 per cent time in a partner university and the other 50 per cent working in a related industry. The university primarily hosts students from Jordan, but in recent years, the number of international students in the university has also been witnessing a significant growth. The university offers more than 20 programmes, and is primarily an undergraduate university. The university is especially renowned for its comprehensive English and German language programmes, and has forged academic partnerships with universities in the Middle East, Europe, North America and Asia. The university campus is well-equipped and has all sorts of facilities ranging from sport recreational facilities to special libraries for learning different languages. The German Jordanian University has a strategic plan of becoming a leading institute of higher education by 2025, and is largely funded by the Government of Germany. The most notable alumni of the university include Maha Ali, the Jordanian minister of Trade and Commerce.

Job Description: The International Water Research Institute (IWRI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in desalination and water treatment, within the framework of an applied research project. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with demonstrated expertise in seawater desalination pretreatment, with a particular emphasis on the Membrane-Based Processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, optimization, and scale-up of advanced pretreatment solutions for seawater desalination. The selected candidate will join a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment, characterized by a strong tradition of integrating fundamental research with applied engineering to deliver impactful, real-world solutions to pressing water challenges. Key Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for: Seawater monitoring and characterization: Planning and conducting periodic sampling campaigns of raw seawater, and monitoring its physicochemical and biological quality. Data analysis and modeling: Processing and analyzing seawater quality data and developing statistical and mathematical models to correlate feed-water characteristics with pretreatment performance. System design and laboratory experimentation: Designing, assembling, and operating a lab-scale Membrane-Based system for seawater pretreatment, including system configuration, optimization, and performance validation. Operation and maintenance protocol development: Developing and implementing a comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) protocol to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Membrane-Based system. Pilot-scale testing and field deployment: Organizing and conducting field missions and pilot-scale trials to assess the efficiency, robustness, and operational behavior of the Membrane-Based pretreatment process under real seawater conditions. Performance assessment and process optimization: Collecting and interpreting operational data, diagnosing performance limitations or fouling issues, and proposing data-driven corrective actions and process improvements. Reporting and knowledge transfer: Preparing high-quality technical reports, datasets, presentations, and documentation for internal team. Scientific dissemination: Contributing to peer-reviewed scientific publications and presenting research outcomes at national and international conferences. Qualifications & Requirements: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Water-Process Engineering, Membrane Materials and Processes, or a closely related discipline. Relevant experience in desalination and/or filtration systems, at laboratory, pilot, or industrial scale. A strong background in ceramic membrane materials and processes is a significant advantage. Mandatory hands-on experience with water treatment processes. Experience in water quality analysis for evaluating and monitoring the performance of water treatment systems. Proven experience in leading or contributing to research projects is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas, build upon existing concepts, and develop novel, practical solutions. Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments. Position Title: Postdoctoral researcher – Plant ecology and soil–plant interactions in vegetated photovoltaic systems-in mining site. Duration: 12 months, renewable. Position Summary: We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our team and contribute to an innovative research project. This position is part of a project aimed at evaluating the integration of native vegetation beneath photovoltaic installations in semi-arid post-mine environments. The objectives include soil stabilization, dust reduction, and the creation of a favorable microclimate to enhance the energy performance of solar panels. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop applied research skills in a field with significant environmental impact. Responsibilities: Selection and characterization of native and local plant species (grasses, legumes, pollinator-friendly plants). Implementation of germination, growth, and adaptation trials under semi-arid conditions. Execution of field trials on pilot sites. Analysis of vegetation effects on microclimate. Participation in the analysis of soil–plant interactions (composition, moisture, microbiology). Scientific valorization: publications, reports, and communication of results. The successful candidate will contribute to our institution's commitment to excellence in research and innovation in agronomy and soils sciences, mainly by conducting innovate research which allow us: (i) to evaluate the effect of land uses and agricultural practices on the capacity of soils to store carbon and (ii) to develop strategies (organo-mineral amendment, installation of a plant cover, inoculation by microorganisms of agronomic interest) and propose recommendations (iii) to increase the sequestration of organic matter on its stable form in the soils and (iv) to use practical biological soil health indicators, such as soil fauna, to promote sustainable use of agricultural soils in Africa. Main responsibilities: The selected candidate will be expected to: Conduct a survey with farmers to obtain a general view of real agricultural practices used in the selected Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan African countries where SOC is very low;  Propose characterisation of the soil properties collected from different studied farms;  Test how to Improve soil organic carbon content using organo-mineral resources under controlled condition; Assess the effect of using organo-mineral resources on soil carbon stock in the field; Implement agronomic assay to evaluate the stability of clay-humic complexes under culture conditions and how an intense of microbial activity contributes into the process of stabilization of organic matter; Assess the effects of organo-mineral management on soil biological parameters, including soil fauna; Predict the dynamic of OM in the future global climate change by using Soil Organic Models.
