About China University of Mining and Technology

Basic information and contact details for China University of Mining and Technology

In 1909, the Jiaozuo School of Railroad and Mines was founded as a university with a focus on heavy engineering and coal production. Later, in 1950, it was moved to the metropolis of Tianjin and then to Beijing, and renamed the China University of Mining and Technology.

CUMT offers about 60 different undergraduate degree courses, with a smaller number of master’s and doctoral courses available. Whilst teaching is obviously key to CUMT’s ethos, it also has a key focus on research, with the university being responsible for three major research laboratories, in addition to two separate research centres and 18 smaller provincial labs.

As well as this, the university also has its own dedicated science park, intended to allow the university to foster an interest in science and technology for future generations, in conjunction with an extensive library of well over 2 million different works in a variety of formats. As a result of all this, the university has established a reputation as a leading authority on mining and geological engineering in China.

The university operates a number of international exchange programmes with foreign institutions, with the purpose of both allowing foreign students to make use of CUMT’s facilities and expertise and for CUMT students to experience working abroad.

The university operates two campuses in the cities of Beijing and Xuzhou, meaning that students at the university have easy access to the sights of sounds of both of these major Chinese cities.
