About Ankara University

Basic information and contact details for Ankara University

Ankara University, founded in 1946, was the first institute of higher education to be established in the modern Turkish Republic.

A public university with more than 60,000 students, it offers a large academic portfolio with courses in a number of scientific disciplines, including social, medical, natural and applied sciences, as well as arts and sports. It also offers associate, undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level programmes. Distance and continuing education courses are also available.

The university is situated on a main campus near the centre of Ankara, Turkey’s capital and the country’s second largest city after Istanbul. It is organised across 14 faculties, nine graduate schools and various research institutes within the city.

The campus itself offers a variety of academic and recreational facilities, as well as providing accommodation for undergraduate students. Facilities include a sports centre, a swimming pool and gymnasium, as well as a number of student societies.

Ankara has been a member of the Erasmus programme since 2004, and boasts a multitude of partnerships. Other memberships include IAU, EUA and UNICA.

Its alumni includes Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener, Istanbul Governer Muammer Guler and former CEO of the Turkish Stock Exchange Osman Birsen.

Ankara itself is an ancient city and students of the university have easy access to a vast array of religious and cultural sites, and the city’s museums. As a major metropolis, Ankara also possesses all the trappings of a modern European city with extensive retail parks, nightlife and a modern transport network.

Context We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in the development and application of Large Language Models (LLMs), to join our team working on predictive maintenance solutions. The ideal candidate will have recently completed (or be close to completing) a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or a related field, with a thesis focused on AI, specifically LLMs. The candidate will apply their expertise to advance predictive maintenance systems using AI tools. Key Responsibilities: Conduct innovative research on the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) to predictive maintenance challenges. Develop and fine-tune LLMs to analyze and interpret unstructured data (e.g., maintenance logs, sensor data, technical reports) for predictive insights Collaborate with domain experts to integrate LLM-based solutions into predictive maintenance workflows. Explore the use of LLMs for anomaly detection, failure prediction, and optimization of maintenance schedules. Publish high-impact research in top-tier conferences and journals at the intersection of AI, NLP, and industrial applications. Contribute to the development of scalable and interpretable AI tools for real-world deployment. Qualifications: A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field, with a thesis focused on AI, particularly LLMs. Strong publication record in top AI/ML/NLP conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, EMNLP, etc.). Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX. In-depth understanding of transformer architectures, attention mechanisms, and fine tuning techniques for LLMs. Experience with time-series data, anomaly detection, or predictive maintenance is a strong plus. Familiarity with industrial datasets and domain-specific challenges is desirable. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Job Description: Postdoctoral Fellow Duration: 12 months. Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary research project focused on the sustainable valorization of phosphate-rich mining waste through innovative comminution strategies. The successful candidate will play a leading role in advancing research on autogenous grinding as a low-energy alternative for liberating indurated phosphates stored in mining waste deposits (MATs). This project integrates mineralogical and mechanical characterization, pilot-scale testing, and advanced process simulation, with the objective of optimizing grinding performance and enhancing resource recovery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mineral processing, comminution modeling, and ore characterization, and will contribute to developing an integrated beneficiation strategy that reduces operational costs, and energy consumption. This research aligns with broader goals of promoting circular economy practices and technological innovation in the Moroccan phosphate mining sector. Area of Research: Sustainable mineral processing, with a focus on autogenous grinding and the valorization of indurated phosphate-rich waste rocks. Main responsibilities: Conduct a detailed literature review on autogenous grinding and phosphate-rich mining waste. Design and implement mechanical, mineralogical, and rheological characterizations of MATs. Select and dimension an appropriate autogenous mill for pilot testing. Lead the design and execution of lab-scale autogenous grinding trials based on experimental design. Contribute to the numerical modeling of beneficiation circuits (e.g., using USIMPAC or similar software). Analyze, interpret, and report the outcomes of simulations and pilot tests. Draft technical reports and scientific publications. Coordinate with internal researchers, external labs, and industrial partners. Candidate Profile: Required qualifications : PhD in Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering, Georesources Engineering, or related field. Proven experience in ore characterization techniques (mechanical, mineralogical, physical). Solid knowledge of comminution technologies and mineral beneficiation processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English or French. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
