In the School of Veterinary Medicine, you will have the opportunity to work with a collaborative team of researchers conducting cutting-edge research in infectious and non-communicable diseases and experts from world class veterinary institutes as well as an established network of veterinary practices through our many collaborative partnerships. The School of Veterinary Medicine currently holds over £7m in external research support for animal and human microbiome projects. A vibrant and collaborative community of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students are currently working on microbiome projects ranging from in vitro studies of antimicrobial resistance to helminth and parasiticide interactions with the microbiome to early-life microbiome of foals. In-house technologies supported by the University include both Illumina and nanopore sequencing platforms, Luminex-read multiplex immunoassay of cytokines, Biolog metabolic fingerprinting and aerobic/anaerobic culturomics. Data processing and analysis is supported by the University’s Bioinformatics Core Facility. Examples of current projects are available at Horse Microbiome Research Group and Anthelmintic Resistance in Southeast Asia (AHR-SEA) and La Ragione Research Group. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Microbiome Science to further grow and sustain research in this field at the University of Surrey. About the role Within the School of Veterinary Medicine, you will join the Section of Infection and Immunity within the Discipline of Comparative Biomedical Sciences. In the role you will: Establish and lead a sustainable research group generating high quality publications and demonstrable impact Secure significant research income to support the work of your research group Mentor postgraduate research students and postdoctoral fellows Initiate cross-disciplinary research collaborations allowing novel, multi-disciplinary insights into animal and human health and disease Make high quality, research-led contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the School, including on the RCVS-accredited BVMSci veterinary degree course. Job Description DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES Research Assistant / Senior Research Assistant (Full Time) (25260747) We are looking for a research assistant or senior research assistant who has knowledge and experience in conducting research in the fields of technology-based health communication and media psychology to join research projects on mental health promotion. Responsibilities: The appointee will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to support both research and administrative functions of the projects. Support all matters related to the main research project on narrative-based mental health promotion and other related projects on mHealth and health psychology. Specific tasks include participant recruitment, project management, survey design, conducting lab and online experimental studies, data maintenance and analysis, writing reports and summaries; Conduct literature reviews and contribute to the development of research protocols, grant proposals, and research ethics applications; Coordinate with collaborating organisations, including tech companies, clinics, and NGOs; Keep track of budget and expenditures; and Assist with the planning, implementation, and dissemination of research studies. Requirements: A master’s degree or higher in communication, psychology, public health, or other social science-related disciplines; candidates with a PhD are highly preferred; A passionate, self-motivated, and well-organised individual who possesses strong analytical and writing skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English, Cantonese, and Putonghua) to effectively collaborate with the research team; Knowledge of data analysis and statistical software such as SPSS or R is necessary; Experience in conducting psychology experiment or clinical trials is preferred; and Experience and skills in AI technologies, mobile health applications, designing interactive stories, or virtual reality programs in Unity are a plus.
