Universidad Regional Amazonica Ikiam is a public university located in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador.
The university was established in 2013, and is named after the word "Ikiam," which means "forest" in the Shuar language.
It is a centre of learning dedicated to addressing the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the Amazon region through innovative education, research, and community engagement.
It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programmes in different disciplines such as life sciences, environmental studies, sustainable development, and engineering. The university’s curriculum integrates scientific research with practical applications.
The university is located in Tena, Napo Province, within the Amazon Basin, one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. This unique location provides Ikiam with a living laboratory where students and researchers can study ecosystems, conduct field research, and engage with local communities.
Students are also able to participate in community service projects, where they work closely with different Indigenous groups.
